In recent years, this fixture hasn't been dominated by either side, adding more intrigue ahead of Sunday. Last season, the two sides met on three occasions, with both teams enjoying one win each and the third match finishing all square. Players to watch: Two elite defensive units
Although Liverpool and Arsenal are blessed with brilliant attacking players, their main strengths arguably lie in their defensive structures. Liverpool's back four of Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Konate and Robertson have played together for many years now and have the experience and quality to come to the Emirates and keep a clean sheet.
Unquestionably, the heartbeat of that defensive unit is Virgil van Dijk. Seen by many as the best centre-back in world football, the big Dutchman will be keen to perform on Sunday after his error swung last season's corresponding fixture in favour of the Gunners.
On the opposite side of the pitch, Arsenal will be heavily relying on Gabriel to produce a resolute performance. He will be missing his usual partner in crime, William Saliba, due to injury so it will be down to Gabriel to organise and lead what is usually a rock-solid back four. David Raya in goal could also be in for a busy afternoon.

As mentioned, Saliba is missing for Arsenal after his red card last week. Also missing for the Gunners are Takehiro Tomiyasu, Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber while Bukayo Saka will need to pass a late fitness test. Meanwhile, Liverpool will be without Alisson, Harvey Elliott and Diogo Jota.
