THE standout fixture from the Premier League this midweek comes from the Emirates where Arsenal lock horns with Liverpool.
Arsenal and Liverpool have enjoyed slightly contrasting seasons to date, with the former lying ninth in the Premier League, while the latter recently claimed their first domestic league title in 30 years.
Both sides will enter this capital clash having failed to win their respective fixtures last time out with Burnley battling to a 1-1 draw at Anfield on Saturday while Arsenal were put to the sword by fierce rivals Spurs on Sunday.
The Gunners have made some notable improvement under the stewardship of Mikel Arteta, however, Sunday's setback bared all the hallmarks of the type of performances that have been attributed to Arsenal in recent seasons.
Liverpool, meanwhile, having clinched a Premier League crown with seven games to spare, have taken seven points from a possible 12 since their long-overdue and well-deserved title triumph.
Jurgen Klopp's star-studded side still have plenty to play for as three wins from their final three fixtures would see the Reds surpass Man City's record-breaking Premier League points tally of 100 points.
Outright Betting
Arsenal have failed to defeat Liverpool in their last 10 attempts and the bookies expect that sequence to continue with a home win an unfancied 11/4 with Bet 365 while a share of the spoils can be backed at 3/1 with Betfred.
Liverpool have taken maximum points from 13 of their 17 Premier League away matches this season and another Reds road success is trading at 19/20 with Betfred.
Betting Angles
12 of the last 14 tussles between these two sides have seen both teams score and a repeat here looks slightly short at 4/7 with Bet 365, however, combining both teams to score and over 2.5 goals is a lot more attractive at 20/23 with Bet 365.
With nothing serious at stake on Wednesday evening I suspect that could set up an open and entertaining encounter at the Emirates between two attack-minded teams who collectively boast an abundance of firepower.
What's more, the Reds have conceded in three of their four run-outs since their title coronation and Arsenal have made the net bulge in every home game of the Arteta era to date.
With that in mind, the above-mentioned betting angle takes appeal, not to mention it's a combination that has clicked in 11 of the last 14 meetings between these two sides across all competitions.
Value could also lie in the card markets in north London given that Arsenal are the most ill-disciplined side in the division and the hosts may have to revert to the dark arts when trying to shackle Klopp's famed front-three.
The Gunners are averaging 2.4 cards per game this season and it's also worth noting that they have seen red in four of the 17 of the Premier League matches that Arteta has taken charge of thus far.
Two or more Arsenal cards looks a bit short at 4/6 with Bet 365, however, I'm happy to add at least one Liverpool card to boost the price up to a much-more enticing 11/10 (Bet 365).
The Reds, despite their low card count this season, have received 1+ bookings across their last four league outings and they have picked up at least one caution when visiting the other four “traditional top six sides” this term, all of which adds to the appeal of siding with the aforementioned combination.
