AFC Bournemouth vs Tottenham Hotspur
English Premier League, KO: 18:00 Jul 9, 2020, Vitality StadiumAFC Bournemouth's tailspin towards the Championship shows no sign of slowing and Tottenham Hotspur will be confident of inflicting another morale-sapping defeat at the Vitaly Stadium.
I thought the Cherries would win their last home match against Newcastle as they desperately needed the points ahead of a daunting run of games against the Premier League's big guns.
Instead, Eddie Howe's men crashed to a humbling 4-1 defeat, with Dan Gosling's late consolation salvaging my day as it brought up my tip of the second half delivering the most goals.
That was followed up by a trip to Old Trafford and despite causing Manchester United a few problems going forward, Bournemouth's dodgy defence coughed up five goals as they crashed to a 5-2 defeat.
Now they face another tough challenge against a Spurs side that bounced back from a humbling by Sheffield United with a 1-0 midweek win over Everton.
Jose Mourinho asked his players to show more fight after their Bramall Lane surrender and got his wish, with Hugo Lloris and Son Heung-Min having a half-time barney.
If they show that battling attitude again here then they should head back up to London with three points.
How the bookies view it
Bournemouth's dismal form makes them as big as 17/4 with Bet365 while Spurs are 3/4 favourites at Unibet. The draw is 31/10 with Sportingbet but Tottenham should win this one if they are switched on. The odds increase to 21/10 with BetVictor if you back Mourinho's side to win to nil.
Recent head to head
Spurs have won five of their last six games against Bournemouth and beat the Cherries 3-2 at home earlier this season (below). But Howe's side can take some heart from the fact they won 1-0 when Tottenham last visited the Vitality Stadium.
These teams have faced off just 10 times in history and Bournemouth's only other victory came at home way back in 1957 in the FA Cup.
Players to watch
Steven Bergwijn started on the bench against Everton but I fancy him to return here as Mourinho freshens things up. The winger has three goals for Spurs since his January move from PSV and is 23/10 with Unibet to add to that tally.
Josh King netted a penalty for Bournemouth at Old Trafford and the Norwegian looks their best bet for a goal here. He's 10/3 with 888Sport in the anytime scorer market.
Anything else catch the eye?
Bournemouth have conceded nine goals in their last two games and I cashed in by backing Manchester United to score over 2.5 goals at the weekend.
But Tottenham haven't scored over two goals in a game since a 3-2 win over Aston Villa back in February so I'd be surprised if they ran riot. Try backing either a one-goal winning margin for Spurs (11/4, Skybet) or a two-goal winning margin (41/10, Sportnation).
William Hill are offering 2/1 on each team winning over one corner in each half and that looks decent value as Bournemouth can't afford to sit back.
