AC Milan vs Inter Milan

, KO: 17:00 Sep 3, 2022, San Siro
Inter Milan

A thrilling encounter is on the cards as the two most recent winners of Serie A clash in the Milan derby on Saturday. AC Milan and Inter Milan have made similar starts to the season and appear evenly matched heading into this one.

Although they are still unbeaten this season, AC Milan would have been targeting a much better start to the campaign. They have claimed two wins and as many draws from their opening four matches, slightly off last season’s start where they began with three victories and a draw.

AC Milan failed to find their spark in midweek as they were held to a 0-0 draw at Sassuolo. They could only manage two attempts on target and could have lost, with Mike Maignan saving a first half penalty.

The problem for AC Milan is that they have struggled to find that attacking quality that was so easy to to come by last season. The likes of Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao have not been at their best this season but manager Stefano Pioli will take solace from the fact that the Rossoneri are still unbeaten.

Inter Milan’s start to the campaign has only been slightly better than AC Milan’s as they sit just one point above their rivals. They have claimed three wins this season but have already been outclassed 3-1 by Lazio.

The Nerazzurri bounced back from the defeat at Lazio in style as they triumphed 3-1 over Cremonese on Tuesday. Efforts from Joaquin Correa, Nicolo Barrella and Lautaro Martinez gave them a 3-0 lead before the visitors pulled one back.

One difference between the two sides is that Inter Milan have not lacked for quality in the final third. They have found the net in every match this season with Lautaro Martinez on two goals already.

How the bookies view it

The bookies appear to be split on this one with a win for AC Milan priced at 20/11 by SBK while an Inter Milan victory is valued at 13/8 by William Hill. Unibet is offering odds of 5/2 for a draw.

Recent head to head

AC Milan and Inter Milan have claimed one win each and a draw from their last three fixtures. Inter claimed a 3-0 victory in the most recent meeting back in April.

Players to watch

Despite looking slightly off colour this season, Olivier Giroud and Rafael Leao still remain big attacking threats for AC Milan. Bet365 has Giroud at 11/8 to score anytime while also offering 5/2 on Leao in the same market.

With Romelu Lukaku out injured, Inter Milan’s attacking play will be dependent on Lautaro Martinez, who already has two goals this season. The striker netted a brace in the last Milan derby and is priced at 15/8 by bet365 to score anytime.

Anything else catch the eye?

There is little to separate AC Milan and Inter Milan at the moment and they are likely to battle to a halftime draw at 5/4 with Sport Nation. Both teams have had some late showings in recent matches and could be backed to score in the second half at 15/8 with SBK.

With both teams expected to score in the second half, it could be tipped to produce the most goals at 11/10 with Paddy Power.
