ABERDEEN look a different proposition under Jim Goodwin this season and head into this SPFL Premiership clash with Motherwell looking to build more momentum.
Goodwin has steered the Dons to five wins out of six in the new campaign, with the other game a defeat at Parkhead, and that has helped banish the gloom of last season.
The Irishman has totally overhauled the squad he inherited from Stephen Glass and the new boys seem to be gelling nicely, with St Mirren battered 4-1 at Pittodrie last weekend.
The bookies blundered by making Aberdeen odds-against last weekend and I was one of many punters who cashed in by backing them to beat a Buddies side in dismal form.
Sadly, they won't make the same mistake for this one against a Motherwell side who look in even worse shape than St Mirren, despite claiming a lucky 1-0 win in Paisley.
Graham Alexander was sacked before that Premiership opener after Well were dumped out of Europe by Sligo Rovers. The board have now handed caretaker Stevie Hammell the job full-time, despite presiding over a 2-1 home loss to St Johnstone last weekend.
The Steelmen look ill-equipped for this trip to Pittodrie and will need to catch Aberdeen on an off-day or drastically improve their own form to stand a chance.
How the bookies view it
Aberdeen aren't odds-on this weekend for a home win, unfortunately, but their price hasn't dropped as much as I thought it would, with a Dons win available at 16/19 with SBK. That still looks good value, especially for accas. Motherwell are 4/1 at William Hill for a Pittodrie win while the draw is 13/5 at Betway.
Recent head to head
Motherwell dominated the Dons last season, going unbeaten across the four meetings and winning three of those matches. That included a 2-0 triumph in the only clash at Pittodrie (below). Aberdeen have only come out on top once in the last nine meetings, a 2-0 win in the North East in January 2021.
Players to watch
Bojan Miovski has made a flying start to his Aberdeen career, with three goals from as many games. The North Macedonia striker scored twice last weekend and is on the penalties so looks decent value at 15/8 (Bet365) for anytime scorer.
Kevin van Veen scored both Motherwell goals in that Pittodrie win last season and also netted the winner from the spot when they beat St Mirren a fortnight ago. The Dutchman is 100/30 at SkyBet for anytime scorer.
Anything else catch the eye?
The Dons kept clean sheets in all four League Cup games and were only denied another last weekend by a soft St Mirren penalty. Motherwell have lacked punch so far this season so an Aberdeen win to nil appeals at 9/5 with Betfred.
Goodwin's side have scored early in every home game so far and that makes backing them to win the first half another decent option at 6/4 with Bet365.
Bevis Mugabi can often dive into the challenges and that makes the Motherwell stopper a good candidate for a card at 15/8 with Bet365.
