Wayne Rooney had a New Year's Eve to forget as he was dismissed as Plymouth manager after less than six months in charge at Home Park.
The Pilgrims had failed to win any of Rooney's final nine matches in charge, a run of form that left the club's hierarchy with little choice but to remove the former Man Utd striker from his position, especially with the club rock bottom of the Championship.
With Plymouth now facing an uphill task to stay in the division, getting a new manager in quickly is of paramount importance. Who is currently in line to become the next Plymouth manager? Here is how the latest odds are stacking up.

There are plenty of eye-catching names in the current list of top ten favourites for the vacant Plymouth managerial job. Former England and Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, is one of several names priced at 33/1 to take the job but getting the 44-year-old to leave his cushy job at Al-Ettifaq feels unlikely at this stage.
Former Wales manager, Rob Page, is another man priced at 33/1 to get the job. If Page does become the next Plymouth manager then it would he first job since being dismissed by the Welsh Football Association six months ago.
Current favourites
Steven Schumacher – 1/8
Steven Schumacher made his name as a manager at Plymouth Argyle between 2021 and 2023 where he led the club back to the Championship after a 13-year absence.
Schumacher won the club the League One title in the summer of 2023 before controversially departing for Stoke City, fellow relegation battlers, midway through the club's first season back in the Championship.
Schumacher was dismissed as Stoke City boss earlier this season and is now the overwhelming favourite to take over at Home Park. How a return for Schumacher would go down with the Plymouth faithful remains to be seen, especially as sections of the support believe he turned his back on the club.
Ryan Lowe – 8/1
Ryan Lowe is another former Plymouth boss and is the second-favourite to replace Rooney at Home Park, suggesting that the club are keen to go for someone they are familiar with as they battle relegation.
During Lowe's first stint as Plymouth boss, Schumacher was his assistant and like his former right-hand man, he left the club midway through a season to join another team. In his case, it was Preston, where he stayed until the beginning of this season.
Lowe is understood to be keen on a swift return to management and the idea of finishing the job could appeal to him.
Tony Mowbray – 20/1
The third-favourite to become the next Plymouth manager is Tony Mowbray who left Birmingham City after just eight matches in charge last season due to being diagnosed with bowel cancer.
Mowbray is now on the road to recovery and revealed in November that he was eyeing a return to club management in the near future.
The 61-year-old has also been linked with the vacancy at West Brom so Plymouth might have to act quickly if he is their top target.
