Tennis Prediction and Betting Tips 2024

Wimbledon 2024 is officially underway, and the excitement is off the charts. Day two of the Grand Slam features some interesting matchups, including British favourite Andy Murray facing off against Tomas Machac for a spot in the Round of 64.

With Wimbledon offering plenty of betting opportunities, we’ve carefully analysed each player’s form and playstyle to help you choose the best bets for this showdown. Read on for our Murray vs Machac prediction and betting tips.

Player Form: Machac Performing Admirably

Two-time champion and home crowd favourite, Murray, is stepping into Wimbledon after a string of underwhelming performances and a rough patch with injuries. His 2024 season hasn’t been very fruitful, with no quarter-final appearances, let alone any semi-finals or finals.

Murray has a 6-12 win-loss record and no titles to his name this year. His recent best performance was at the Queen's Club, where he was knocked out in the Round of 16. However, with the home crowd cheering for him, Murray seems to have a renewed fire in his eyes as he takes on Wimbledon for what will be the last time.

Machac, on the other hand, has performed admirably this season. He achieved a career-high ranking of 33 and has maintained an impressive 18-10 win-loss record, playing against top-notch players like Sinner, Ruud, and Medvedev. His performances on clay and hard courts were particularly exceptional, although he hasn't played much on grass.

The 23-year-old made it to the third round of the first two Grand Slams in 2024, and he's eager to notch his first Wimbledon victory after a disappointing debut with a first-round exit last year.

How the Bookies View It: Machac as the Favourite

Bookmaker Betfred is leaning towards Machac to win this match, making him the favourite at 1/3. Meanwhile, Murray is standing far behind with 9/4 to win. Set betting suggests a three-set victory for Machac at 3-0, with this result paying 2/1.

Recent Head-to-Head: Machac Looking Solid

Wimbledon is going to be the third time Murray and Machac go against each other. Machac leads their head-to-head 2-0 and their last match was in the Round of 32 in Miami, where the Czech defeated Murray 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(5).

Anything Else Catch the Eye?

Murray has declared his retirement in 2024, making this Wimbledon his last shot at another title. Injuries have been a major headache for the 37-year-old this season, and his campaign so far hasn't exactly been very noteworthy.

The Brit hasn’t made many appearances this season and looked seriously rusty during his run at the Queen's Club. He managed to win a nail-biting three-setter in his opener against Alexei Popyrin, but another injury forced him to call it quits midway through his second-round match.

Comparatively, Machac's 2024 season has been slightly better, but he has failed to claim a title yet. He's been solid on the court, winning 71 percent of his first serves and saving 58 percent of breakpoints.

His last notable performance was in the Geneva finals against Casper Ruud, where he put up a good fight but ultimately fell short with a 5-7, 3-6 loss.

Murray vs Machac Betting Tips & Prediction

Machac might face challenges on grass against Murray's resilience, especially with Murray's added motivation. While we predict Murray to ultimately win, Machac is likely to snatch at least one set in the match.

  • Murray to win @ 9/4
  • Murray to win 3-1 @ 8/1

Murray and Machac will play on the Centre Court, 1:30pm local time. While you wait, make sure to go through our men’s outright winner betting tips for Wimbledon 2024.
