The second pleasing winner on the trot yesterday, with Honneur D'ajonc being well supported, before doing it nicely at Fontwell, scoring with relative simplicity.
Perth - 14:28 |
Mojo Ego |
10/1 |
On Tuesday, I’m very much of the opinion that Mojo Ego is generously priced ahead of the 14:28 contest at Perth, a Class 4 hurdle over a slightly extended two miles.
A previous Class 3 winner, the lightly-raced gelding comes into this race off the back of a relatively pleasing reappearance at Cartmel last time out, finishing fifth (of 12) in a better race than this.
On the evidence of that reappearance effort, if slightly sharpened, he could easily get heavily involved in what is an event containing less depth.
Has the form to win a race of this type
Not only did the four-year-old perform well in deeper waters last time out, but he’s won better races than this, scoring in a Class 3 at Kelso back in March, showing a level of form that is above what several of these have achieved.
He’s been dropped 2 lbs by the handicapper for what was far from a discouraging effort, which could turn out to be lenient, while he’ll be ridden by the jockey that does most of the winning for trainer James Moffatt, who doesn’t have a bad Perth record.
If we look at the Kelso race that he won, we can see that the runner-up has since gone on to win what could easily be described as a slightly better race than this, which is not something to ignore.
Sure, the early market is all about Bowling Buddy, who was a simple winner last time out, beating one of those that opposes again here, but besides that, he beat very little and this is now harder, making him no guarantee to follow up. Given the early odds, he’s worth opposing, absolutely.
All in all, there’s plenty to like about the mount of Charlotte Jones, who is right up there on speed ratings in this field, so much so that odds of 10/1 offer clear value for money as far as I’m concerned. I’ll be surprised if such odds remain available come the off, put it that way.
Based on a £10 level-stakes example, the Nap of the Day running profit is +£24 (since switching to being published here (10/09/2024) rather than on the ‘Nap of the Day' page).
