Attacanter Racing Tips
JM Jungle 9/1 6 places – 13.50 York
Pilgrim's form stacks up exceedingly well, his wide stall is of no concern and appears to be a stand out selection, he is hit with another 8lb rise however and is only a 3 year old so reluctantly I swerve him for at the bottom of the weights.
Clearly loads of runners in this could have been spun for you today, I'm not going to give honorable mentions but Silkie Wilkie was a short head 2nd in a big field heritage handicap last summer and is now operating off 15lbs lower, I thought that was worth a mention.
Only two 4 year olds have won this from the last 10 runnings, the field is scattered with younger horses this year so the stats may not matter so much, but no 3yo has won it in that time. Our trainer won this in 2018 whilst the jockey did it in 2020, our main Jason Hart hasn't been out of the top 4 in 3 runnings.
Not all horses enjoy it here but my selection has shown a liking to it, placing twice in massive fields at this time last year. He'll love the quick surface and comes here 5lbs below one of those runs whilst more recently he once again placed in a big field at the Curragh, that does suggest a win might be a stretch too far but I like his chances today.
Get Shirty 16/1 five places – 16.10 York
Overlooking an Irish trained horse from the Gordon Elliot yard at 5/1 when 4 places in the L15 would return us nice profit is probably a bit silly but it's lazy journalism if you ask me. Obviously the horse may well win it easily, but I'd never trust it. Forza Orta won this last year, is below that mark but Rowan Scott opts for another.
Get Shirty may prove a poor selection but he is verging on being well handicapped having been ‘retrained' as a stayer, the drop back to 2 miles may suit slightly more than the last twice given he was often running over a lot shorter in times gone by. You have to go back 2 years for his last win, but he is at least 15lbs lower today, the same mark he placed from at Ascot, he gets 5lbs from the 2nd that day, Divine Comedy who is more than half the price.
If a stats man, Hugo Palmer's 2 entries in this both placed, he has Zoffee. My jockey is 0-10 in this race whilst the trainer has had 2 place from 10, that isn't what we like to see but his price just about convinces me.
Designer 10/1 4 places – 16.45 York
A lot has to be taken on trust backing Designer, John Butler's stable star hasn't been seen for almost a year. At a festival race I would typically look elsewhere, red hot apprentice Brandon Wilkie (here for Holkham Bay) is on, which to me suggests the trainer is not sure she's up to it but will be going for it, so has added the claimer – if that makes sense.
Designer hasn't been beat in two visits to York, the apprentice puts the horse on 1 lower than her last win here and will at least be on a more firmer surface which will suit. Not that it means anything but she did beat Marine Wave last season, who won a Listed race this week.
Scatter Penny 7/1 five places – 17.20 York
Scatter Penny runs off a mark for this first time having beaten 24 rivals in her first two starts. Of course at this age, form can be irrelevent, some horses are bought along slower etc etc. She did beat Glitterati on his 2nd start, an Archie Watson horse who is 2-3 since, winning by 4 lenghts last time off 80. Scatter has been given a stiff but fair mark of 85. This is obviously a step up for her but she merits her inclusion at the expense of Managing Director who's silks catch the eye here, they also have Pocklington earlier in the card.
- Advised bet – Eachway Lucky 15
WHAT IS A LUCKY 15 BET?
A Lucky 15 bet consists of 15 unique bets, covering every possible combination that comes from backing four selections. The 15 bets are broken down like this:
– 1 fourfold accumulator
– 4 trebles, with each treble omitting one of your selections
– 6 doubles, again covering every possible combination
– 4 singles
The attraction of a Lucky 15 is that it offers many more ways to win than a standard accumulator. A Lucky 15 uses both your acca and your singles as well as producing trebles and doubles that reward you for correctly calling 2/4 or 3/4 of your selections. To cover the 15 separate bets, a Lucky 15 uses your stake 15 times. If you were to place £1 on a Lucky 15, you would be staking £15 in total across the various bets.
