At Catterick early on Tuesday evening, there’s plenty to like about the vastly experienced Mr Strutter, who is no stranger to running a big race on soft ground at this venue.

Six times a winner at Catterick, the ten-year-old may be getting on a bit, but there’s been little to suggest that he’s not capable of getting seriously involved in lowly Class 6 affairs of this nature, especially from what is a lenient-looking handicap mark.
Now 3 lbs below his last winning mark, the gelding delivered a respectable effort to finish a not-far-away fifth over a mile at Musselburgh last time out. On that evidence, this drop back to seven-furlongs looks like a good move.
His last run over course and distance came back in late May, when he finished a close-up third on soft ground, doing so in a race that contained a little more depth than this.
Running over C&D is something that he’s done plenty of, while he’s done it well on several occasions, winning four previous seven-furlong races at Catterick, placing on a further five occasions.
The gelding also has one win and one place to his name from four soft-ground C&D runs, both of which came from higher in the weights. He’s also a heavy-ground winner at this venue, so any further rain would likely be no issue.
We should also throw in the fact that he has positive form against several of these, including a couple that currently sit ahead of him in the betting.
Factor in that he’s right up there in terms of both recent and career-best speed ratings and this proven Catterick performer starts to look leniently priced at odds of 8/1. Such odds offer value for those who seek it.
