Tuesday's NAP of the Day

Last week finished with a non-runner as the wet weather washed away most of Saturday’s action, and it’s been much of the same since. A new week for the ‘Nap of the Day’ begins on Tuesday, and it’s off to Wolverhampton, which thanks to rather treacherous conditions, happens to be the only meeting of the day.

Wolverhampton - 17:00

Ravenglass

13/2

Ahead of the race taking place at 17:00, a Class 6 handicap over an extended mile, Ravenglass looks nicely priced at 13/2.

Successful over course and distance back in October, the gelding has continued to run with promise, and with 3 lb claimer Joe Leavy back in the saddle tonight, he may just have been found the right sort of opening here.

Course record suggests he should go well

Wolverhampton has been where this runner has carried out his best all-weather work, there can be no denying that. From nine runs at the venue, the gelding has one win and four places to his name, finishing a close-up second when last seen back on December 16th.

On that occasion, Adrian Wintle’s six-year-old ran on well over seven furlongs, suggesting that this return to distance of his sole course success would suit him down to the ground.

He’s now rated 1 lb higher than when finishing second recently, but with Joe Leavy back in the plate, he’s effectively 2 lbs better off, which is eye-catching given that this looks to be a slightly easier race in terms of strength in depth.

It’s also worth mentioning that the gelding is yet to run a bad race with Leavy on board, winning over C&D back in October, before finishing second (by a neck) at Southwell.

While he’s above his last winning mark, given that he’s previously placed several times from marks such as 57, 58 and 62, you could absolutely argue that he’s well handicapped on a mark of 55.

The likely pace of this contest should suit too, with not many who’ve shown a pattern of going forward, leaving the gelding, who likes to be up with the pace, without a serious battle on the front end.

Top of the pile for last-time-out speed ratings, with Leavy taking off a handy 3 lbs, in a race that is no better than the one he won over C&D a while back, Ravenglass simply ticks a few too many boxes for odds of 13/2 to be considered anything but value for money.

Based on a £10 level-stakes example, the Nap of the Day (after 79 Naps) has a running P/L of +£85.00 (since switching to being published here (10/09/2024) rather than on the ‘Nap of the Day' page).

For those interested, here’s a monthly profit and loss breakdown (again based on a £10 level-stakes example):

September 2024 = +£34.00

October 2024 = +£6.00

November 2024 = +£15.00

December 2024 = +£50.00

2024 Overall = +105.00
