Just two places for us yesterday which wasn't really good enough, Cairzny at least stepped up to the plate with a decent winner in the shape of Tommie Beau, whilst as always, there were some decent shouts in the comments.
Craig Lidster continued to make a fool of me given any of his I tip lose, and any that get a mention seem to stroll home at ridiculous prices. I suppose I was punished for playing it a bit safe, which isn't overly necessary given my ‘sensible stake' philosophy. Romanovich was put up here last week, he lost the assistance of a 5lb claim yet got the job done at a nice price. It goes to show if the horse is on a going day, splitting hairs over what mark he's running off is pointless.
Attacanter Racing Tips
Thornaby Pearl 7/1 4 places – 16.00 Ripon
Twelfth Knight has a couple of wins at this level for a trainer who is having a decent month. The horse has beat a good few of today's rivals but is narrowly overlooked despite putting in his best run here for some time 22 days ago. Now 3lbs below his most recent success he isn't the worst bet in the world but as is becoming typical, I've had my eye turned.
Thornaby Pearl will carry 14lbs less and that swung it for me. He's a C&D winner too, as many in this are, that came a year ago off 1lb higher, the fact he won by over 4 lengths suggests he should be more than capable today if he has been kept up to his work from the last time.
I actually considered him last time when 3rd at 20/1 here, in a race won by Twelgth Knight's trainer. The 2nd was current fav Another Baar, we get 5lbs off him.
The horse hasn't exactly strung two good races together but I'll remain positive despite the firm ground being optimal. His wins have all had soft in the description but it wasn't his undoing last time, if he is able to dictate from the front, he should have a chance.
Ruth Carr is one of my favourites, she has a lightly raced ex Karl Burke horse with a win to his name already. If I'm still in the gig this winter, we'll be profitting from her via the AW evening meetings.
Feeney Brooke 11/2 5 places – 16.22 Stratford
Alistair Ralph was 0-9 over August/September last year, but it looks strange seeing Danny Mullins makes the trip to the UK just for this ride despite riding in Ireland yesterday, perhaps West Life are on at the O2?? I haven't looked at jumps racing for months, but Stratford does have some open fields with nice prices and it's a tad easier than the flat so, why not.
This is a terrible looking race in terms of quality, I am setting myself up for failure even attempting it, I don't even overly like the price but the horse has been running decently enough and is below her last winning mark.
It really is not sufficient to pass it on to you so you'll have to forgive me if it fails with promises of making it up to you as the racing improves closer to the end of the week.
The trainer sent 1 runner here the last time they convened, it won, whilst no one has ridden more winners than Sheehan here over the last couple of seasons. Lucinda Russel needs know introduction she was something liek 5-20 last September, all at Scottish meetings, so could be worth a check whilst others aren't firing this early in on in the year.
Fanzone 15/2 – 16.10 Musselburgh
I apologise if this looks like a lazy pick, seeing 2 and 2, we do at least come up with four but Tom Kiely-Marshall has a winner and two places from just 5 rides for Liam Bailey and Fanzone seems to be his best chance tomorrow, however this is bargain bucket racing and even the soundest selections can come unstuck come race time.
It'd be typical given what happened with Romanovich to see Little Ted go in with Alexander Fielding claiming 7lbs, he wasn't tried last time and I won't be risking him in this despite being capable. He beat Fanzone here recently over a similar distance, I thought the bigger price and extra 7lbs we get wasn't to be sniffed at. He hasn't won for a very long time, we saw yesterday how a few pounds doesn't actually matter to a horse, but on paper given he has come 2nd a few times off 6 higher, he scrapes into the bet.
No extra places are on offer whilst perhaps one of the best apprentice jockey's as the moment S D Bowen is on board the favourite, I suspect he will be a name we see a lot of for a good few seasons to come.
Spantik 6/1 3 places – 17.00 Ripon
Spantik is a horse I chucked some change on last time when 8/8 at 33/1. Seeing him now at this price after that run I just couldn't ignore him now back at the scene of his last victory, over the same distance with the same man back on board.
You won't get far chancing such horses based on a win 12 months ago but the places look wide open and the aforementioned information is enough justification in the circumstances. The trainer isn't even in form and the horse is carrying near top weight over 2m, I am not exactly selling it to you but I am providing my services for less than a lump of coal so there will be the odd day tips are substandard, but I am transparent and won't try spin it any other way.
– Advised bet – Eachway Lucky15
WHAT IS A LUCKY 15 BET?
A Lucky 15 bet consists of 15 unique bets, covering every possible combination that comes from backing four selections. The 15 bets are broken down like this:
– 1 fourfold accumulator
– 4 trebles, with each treble omitting one of your selections
– 6 doubles, again covering every possible combination
– 4 singles
The attraction of a Lucky 15 is that it offers many more ways to win than a standard accumulator. A Lucky 15 uses both your acca and your singles as well as producing trebles and doubles that reward you for correctly calling 2/4 or 3/4 of your selections. To cover the 15 separate bets, a Lucky 15 uses your stake 15 times. If you were to place £1 on a Lucky 15, you would be staking £15 in total across the various bets.
