Rizz had one of those days on Wednesday when nothing seemed to go to plan. Both of his selections unseated their rider which is just one of things you can do nothing about.

Although there is four meetings on within the UK and Ireland on Thursday I struggled to find much worth talking about. I found myself concentrating on the meeting at Musselburgh and I have found one selection that I liked the look of.

Johnny Ringo 2/1 – Musselburgh 1.00

This race is a bit on the risky side, as we are betting in a race which a fair few are making their debut over hurdles, so of course their jumping ability has to be taken on trust and my selection Johnny Ringo certainly falls into that category.

There's No Limit is the only horse in the lineup with hurdle experience, and although experience can prove an important factor, I'm quietly confident that this will go to one of the newcomers. The two horses that I narrowed this down to were Johnny Ringo and Spartan Warrior, both of whom achieved respectable ratings when running on the flat.

Spartan Warrior achieved an OR on the flat of 70, which in the grand scheme of things is pretty bang average but he did rattle a couple of wins of back in May and stays these middle distances quite well. Furthermore, the Rebecca Menzies yard are throwing up the odd winner here and there and she has booked former champion jockey Brian Hughes for the ride.

I opted against Spartan Warrior and decided on the Lucinda Russell-trained Johnny Ringo who I thought had a stronger chance of winning this contest. Johnny Ringo notably achieved a higher rating on the flat compared to Spartan Warrior ( currently rated 80 ). My selection was last seen when finishing second at Newcastle on the all-weather, not beaten far by the now 88 rated Charlottes Web from the Simon & Ed Crisford yard. Similar to Spartan Warrior, Johnny Ringo also stays these middle distances quite well and I felt he had more scope for progression taking this step up in trip. I think if he jumps well, or at least to a decent enough standard he should should have too much speed for this lot in the run-in. Notably, Lucinda Russell won this race last year and she holds strong claims once more with Johnny Ringo.
