Rizz got the new year off to a winning start with all three of his selections winning quite comfortably in all of their contests.
Rizz advised a double which paid just over 2/1 with his other selection winning as an advised single of 7/4. A couple of the selections did shorten quite a bit, so hopefully you all got better odds from the post going live the night before.
Cairnzy's Tips
Come On John 6/4 – Newcastle 1.52
I'm a huge fan of the James Owen yard and despite this particular selection being on the frustrating side of things having finished second in his last three outings. I believe he is a winner in waiting and a return to the winners' enclosure is surely around the corner if he can replicate his current form in this contest.
I don't think this affair is as competitive as that of his last few, with most of this lineup being seemingly out of sorts with the slight exception of maybe one or two. My selection Come On John was originally trained by Michael Attawater but switched hands to James Owen in October of last year. A switch of scenery can spark horses into form, which is the case for Come On John who has recent form figures of 413222 since joining the James Owen stable. My selection can count himself a tad unlucky not to have a few more 1's on his CV having been beaten on the line twice by a head and also went down by three-quarters of a length on another occasion.
James Owen has booked Jason Watson for the ride, Jason is yet to ride Come On John but does have an eye catching S/R of 33% at Newcastle from last year which holds him in good light for going into this contest.
Fire Dancer 13/2 – Huntingdon 1.25
Not much caught my eye on the jumps and my final selection is a bit on the risky side but I thought at the prices, Fire Dancer was worth a small wager for trainer Venetia Williams and jockey Charlie Deutsch.
My selection is now 6lb lower than when winning on his British debut back in 2023. Fire Dancer is surprisingly lightly enough raced at the age of 9 and under Venetia Williams has only made 9 career starts. Fire Dancer made his seasonal reappearance last month when finishing a well beaten fourth of six. Regardless of the finishing position I thought that was an encouraging return to action on the back of a layoff from the track. Fire Dancer was ridden prominetly during that particular contest and at one point led around four from home. Fitness was clearly an issue as he found little in the business end and his effort quickly tamed out but he is entitled to come on plenty for that reappearance.
Charlie Deutsch replaces amateur jockey Lucy Turner in the saddle and dropped 2lb for that recent contest should hopefully be competitive of a mark of 108.
