There is some nice racing on Thursday and we've selected 4 horses for our Lucky 15 bet.
As usual, let us know who you fancy for Thursday's racing in the comments!
Cairnzy's Tips
Aalmaqam 8/1 – Deauville 3.25
Ed Walker's Aalmaqam looks overpriced in my opinion at 8/1 and represents some value against the short-priced Haggas runner at 8/1.
He took a step forward from his Yarmouth debut with an impressive win at Listed level in the Heron Stakes under William Buick before finishing 5L back in sixth to Rosallion in the St James's Palace at Royal Ascot. When the pace quickened he got caught out that day, however, this looks a lot less competitive and this step up to 1m2f looks sure to suit on paper.
Allonsy 5/2 – Salisbury 4.40
The Rossa Ryan and Beckett combo is a dangerous one and Allonsy surely comes here with a huge chance. Allonsy has been progressing well this season and comes here in search of a four timer. The application of headgear has seemingly been the difference to her recent successes and she'll take some catching from the front if given an uncontested lead. Alhattan is of interest for George Boughey and Jim Crowley, but her tendency to run freely has recently cost her in races, but if she can settle better she has a chance.
Rizzel's Tips
Pons Aelius 6/1 – Beverley 4.20
I can see why Cairnzy's old selection, Pfingstberg, is the market favourite given his recent runaway victory at Nottingham. However, I feel like he got the run of the race that time, and he might struggle a bit more to stamp his authority on the front end in this field, plus the hike in the handicap will make it tougher.
Pons Aelius is a horse who surely has to be better than his current mark of 66. He is only a 5-year-old, so you'd like to think there's still fight in him, as he's not old by any means. Last year he was winning off a mark of 79 and was running well in Class 2 and Class 3 handicaps off marks in the 80s, but for some reason this season his form has taken a nosedive. He has run well on a few occasions, but his form is very in and out, with no in-between.
The form of the Class 2 Northumberland Vase is definitely the best piece of recent form in this race. He managed to finish 4th/14 in that very competitive race, just 3.25L behind the Irish raider who was well-handicapped that day. For him to drop from a Class 2 to a Class 6 you'd think it would be much easier for him. Last time out he didn't get the clearest of runs through under Joanna Mason at Carlisle, he was under the cosh but was still fighting and then had the door closed when attempting to make up some room. I am not too concerned about Joanna Mason keeping the ride, as even though she isn't used a lot for Charlie Johnston, the Racing League meeting is on today so his usual riders will be heading towards there.
Galaxy Princess 13/2 – Salisbury 5.15
Speaking of Joanna Mason, she got the call-up last time out on board Galaxy Princess, which seemed like a strange jockey booking at the time, and for whatever reason this filly didn't fire at all at Ascot on her handicap debut.
Rossa Ryan is back on board today, which is a positive given he is the main jockey for the Beckett yard, as well as being extremely good in the saddle. It might take a bit of a dive to trust Galaxy Princess on the back of that lacklustre effort at Ascot, but this race is a big drop in class, and that is why she is the top weight in this race, so she should find it easier against today's opposition.
She has shown a decent level of form from her novice races. She was behind her stablemate at today's venue in the middle of May and the form of that looks good with the winner following up and the third-placed horse now being rated 88.
WHAT IS A LUCKY 15 BET?
A Lucky 15 bet consists of 15 unique bets, covering every possible combination that comes from backing four selections. The 15 bets are broken down like this:
– 1 fourfold accumulator
– 4 trebles, with each treble omitting one of your selections
– 6 doubles, again covering every possible combination
– 4 singles
The attraction of a Lucky 15 is that it offers many more ways to win than a standard accumulator. A Lucky 15 uses both your acca and your singles as well as producing trebles and doubles that reward you for correctly calling 2/4 or 3/4 of your selections. To cover the 15 separate bets, a Lucky 15 uses your stake 15 times. If you were to place £1 on a Lucky 15, you would be staking £15 in total across the various bets.
