Lake Victoria was an easy winner for the thread on Saturday. She simply loved the soft ground and the added stamina she had in reserve showed as she powered clear in the final furlong.

Marlay Park 11/2 – Epsom 5.15

I am a big fan of backing horses with course form, it's an obvious advantage but is amplified more so on niche tracks like Epsom. Marlay Park is a four-time course winner and spends most of his time running at the Surrey track, so he gets my vote in this contest against many other course and distance winners.

It's becoming a recurring theme for me to be backing horses with Kaiya Fraser doing the steering, but it's more of a coincidence that I like the chances of the horses he seems to be riding, which bodes well as he has given me plenty of winners over the last month. Marlay Park hasn't been firing this season so far, but his handicap mark has taken a dive because of that and that makes him worth a chance in today's race. He started the season running off a mark of 83, but now he is rated 76 but will be running off 73 as Kaiya Fraser takes off 3lbs. This official rating gives him a huge chance of returning to form as he is now effectively 3lbs below his last winning mark, (was 79, but had a 3lb claimer on board).

The soft ground isn't too much of a concern as going off his entire career form he seems to handle any going and was smashed in the betting last time out on soft ground when going off as 7/2F. It didn't quite work out how connections thought it would as he finished 9th/12 and was beaten by his stablemate who was less fancied in the market. He has a 10lbs swing in the weights with that winner, so there is a lot to like about the chances of Marlay Park.

I don't think there's too much to read into Luke Catton riding Hodler and not Marlay Park. Luke is a claimer often using by Jim Boyle, but I highly doubt he had any idea of swapping rides given he has been on Hodler plenty of times in the past. Kaiya Fraser gets his first ride for Jim Boyle, but it's a great jockey booking for the sake of claiming 3lbs. There is not a better jockey claiming 3lbs at this present moment in the UK. This lad is different gravy and it's daylight robbery that he is able to claim.

Judgementofsolomon  15/8 – Southwell 4.15

Sir Mark Prescott's progressive 3-year-old son of Study Of Man looks to have found another good opportunity to land a third win of the season.

This horse doesn't have the profile of your usual progressive Sir Mark Prescott horse as he doesn't arrive with a string of 1's attached to his recent form, but he has run well in his previous races, with him getting his second win of his career last time out at Pontefract, doing it with ease but idling in the final stages, making it a bit more interesting than it should have been.

This is a decent race for the grade, and Judgementofsolomon had already been behind Environment Amigo once before this year so he has to prove he can beat him in this race, but I think this trip will be more favourable for my selection as opposed to the 1m 6f they raced over in August.

Luke Morris isn't riding for Sir Mark Prescott today, which is a tad surprising as he has a runner in Ireland at the Curragh, as well as this horse running at Southwell today. I'm not sure whether he has a one day ban or something, but it's strange not to see him on board one of Sir Mark's horses. Despite that, Callum Rodriguez gets the ride and he has been one of the best Northern jockeys in the last couple of years and has proven that when he gets on decent horses he is a very good jockey. He is 2/5 this year when riding for Sir Mark, which is a decent enough strike rate and shows that it's not just a random jockey booking, which is never ideal.

    Irish cesarewitch 4-25 curragh 🇮🇪

    Magellan strait 25-1 ew
    Zoffee 33-1 ew
    Both 8 places SKYBET.

Magellan strait won this at 150-1 last year and Joseph O’Brien uses the same claimer and runs off the same weight today.

Zoffee is a regular in these types of races and as a Chester cup winner has a sniff.

To be honest you can make a case for 20 odd of these cant you 🤣
