A drifter in the betting, Friday’s Nap failed to deliver and then some, with Suanni never getting involved at Lingfield. We move on to the final bet in March 2025. Here goes.
Downpatrick - 13:45 |
Game On |
9/1 (each-way) |
The flat season is now upon us, though the action over jumps continues to tick along, and on Sunday, I’m interested in the opener at Downpatrick, where there’s an intriguing Noel Meade runner. Lightly raced and seemingly moving in the right direction, Game On is worthy of each-way support at odds of 9/1.
The five-year-old didn’t offer much on debut, but he certainly took a chunky step forward at Thurles last time out, finishing second (of 16) in a maiden hurdle a fortnight ago. The form of that race is yet to be franked, but if he can find a little more improvement for a trainer that does very well with these non-handicap types at this venue, then he could easily get involved in a race that seemingly lacks depth.
Noel Meade is not a trainer to ignore at Downpatrick
Interestingly, in his training career, Noel Meade has delivered his best strike rate at Downpatrick, winning with a chunky 22.14% of his runners at the County Down track.
He’s also seen two of his last four runners at this venue win, with one of the other two placing. Better yet is the fact that prior to this season Meade boasted a very impressive Downpatrick strike rate of 45.45% with bumper and non-handicap hurdle horses, hitting the frame (at least) with 17 out of 22. That’s a win/place strike rate of 77.27%, which for my money, is too significant to ignore.
Of course, there’s a Mullins hotpot in the field and, as they often do, that one may justify skinny odds, though given that this looks anything but the hottest race of its type, Game On makes plenty of each-way appeal all the time odds of 9/1 are on offer.
Based on a £10 level-stakes example, the Nap of the Day (after 107 Naps) has a running P/L of -£88.00 (since switching to being published here (10/09/2024) rather than on the ‘Nap of the Day' page).
For those interested, here’s a monthly profit and loss breakdown (again based on a £10 level-stakes example):
