Saturday's haven't been total write-offs but yesterday's results fell below the expected standard, I haven't drawn many blanks recently so we can move on without too much fuss given there was quite a bit of scepticism initially regarding selections.

Sunday doesn't have too much on but I have at least had a bit more time, I've taken a bit of a chance in the big race of the day whilst the middle two if fully firing have solid place claims. The last runner is a bit of a punt but as expressed, on his best is there on merit.

Attacanter Racing Tips

Taipain 16/1 six places – 16.25 Curragh

It doesn't make total sense to voluntarily dip into these races, it is essentially setting yourself up for a fail, especially if overlooking a few tried and tested runners. I have mentioned I don't really follow Irish racing but it's always worth having a go at the biggest races.

Nurburgring has been heavily supported almost halving in price. The usual names sit near the top of the market, I did look for a Willie Mullins runner with Spasiba the pick at 20/1, I'll probably throw some coins on him but I am going to risk the Jessica Harrington trained Taipan. From her 9 entries, she has a winner and a place which is fine enough given we know we're taking a relative punt.

Taipan only managed 7th in this race two years back off 5 lower so he isn't an obvious selection but I am hopeful he can outrun his price and at least keep us glued to the screen in hope for long enough into the contest. The record over this trip isn't exactly sparkling but I was impressed with his win at Galway, making all and finishing strongly which hopefully was an indication his trainer has tried to prepare him better for this race today having missed last year.

Miguel 11/2 – 17.15 Epsom

I have overlooked Redredrobin who is 9lbs better off with Hodler, a horse I put up last time when winning at a nice price. Jim Boyle saddles two in this but it is the Jack Channon trained Miguel I am happy to side with despite his main chance being in the 16.40.

This horse won last time when dropped into Class 5 company, the best level he has effectively reached, this is a slight step up but not one to concern ourselves with. Miguel carried 6lbs more than Jenni who finished 2.25 lengths behind, she was seen this week winning in a Class 4. Before that Miguel was finishing 2nd to Byzantine Empress, the 3rd won next time.

The ground is set to be heavy at Epsom, the horse hasn't shown too much on it, it's a slight concern but the sire has had a couple of winners this week on boggy ground which is good enough for me.

Aside from those mentioned, Come On You Spurs is another last-time-out winner, that was on soft and Oisin Murphy is back on board having finished 2nd on him before Neil Callan took over.

Dream Adozen 8/1 – 15.30 Epsom

The Charlie Johnston trained Dream Adozen takes his chance in the Epsom Apprentice Derby, he and the apprentice were successful for us recently and given Archie Young is allowed to take off 5lbs, I am more than happy to throw this horse in who has two wins to his name on heavy up against some recent winners. He was behind Cambria Legend in August, a horse I was really tempted to side with, he is lightly raced and open to progress, we're 8lbs better off which might not be enough but we're likeable enough.

The horse has only got his head in front once this season but the 2nd did win his next two, we're 1lb below that indicating we are somewhat overpriced – hopefully. This seems to be the best trip for the horse but he has been tested over 2 mile which may aide in tough conditions.

One place from 18 runs at this track for the yard is extremely offputting but each case needs assessing individually and although many rivals are in form, I'll take a chance once again.

Embarked 14/1 four places – 15.40 Southwell

Scott Dixon is local to Southwell, his record isn't amazing but all of his runners are worth a quick once over, the race card does imply it's a tough race to feature in but with an extra place on offer I'll chance it.

K T O'Neill has been a regular rider of his for a long time, the trainer has four in this, I suspose the 5lb apprentice being on board our selection would have been a bonus, it does make me think it's unlikely to show his best form but given Flowstate is 7/1, a horse I put up recently – who has shown next to nothing, I am happy to stick with Embarked at twice the price.

The horse is yet to win for Dixon having been with James Fanshawe when last successful rated two below today's rating at this time last year. He did manage a nice enough 2nd over today's C&D a month ago, Airshow was 2 lengths behind, we're 2lbs better off yet he is 9/2. The winner is also in this, Petra Celera, we are 7lbs better off for a half-length and if revved up, he is overpriced off of that.

WHAT IS A LUCKY 15 BET?

A Lucky 15 bet consists of 15 unique bets, covering every possible combination that comes from backing four selections. The 15 bets are broken down like this:

– 1 fourfold accumulator

– 4 trebles, with each treble omitting one of your selections

– 6 doubles, again covering every possible combination

– 4 singles

The attraction of a Lucky 15 is that it offers many more ways to win than a standard accumulator. A Lucky 15 uses both your acca and your singles as well as producing trebles and doubles that reward you for correctly calling 2/4 or 3/4 of your selections. To cover the 15 separate bets, a Lucky 15 uses your stake 15 times. If you were to place £1 on a Lucky 15, you would be staking £15 in total across the various bets.
