The UK racing looks pretty disastrous from an each way perspective today but I've put together something which hopefully gives us a bang for our buck after two low key days to kickstart November.

Only one horse managed to place yesterday, which was fair enough given two chances were taken at Ascot, San Isidro however was very disappointing, last of the bridle but virtually pulled up, a horse surely capable of something soon so we'll try keep an eye out for him next time.

Attacanter's Tips

Slugger 4/1 four places – 15.58 Carlisle

Byron Hill won over C&D last time out, his connections won the big race at Wetherby yesterday and at a similar price to my riskier selection, he does seem to offer more value having ran out a 5 length winner here just two weeks ago.

The market leader is also fully respected having seen them go in recently, I however am going to throw up Slugger, a horse making his first start for the yard having been taken off Iain Jardine sometime after his last race back in May.

The horse is just a five-year-old with one win to his name, having been off five months he is a disgusting price but included all the same. I don't think Harry Dereham is buying anything from the Jardine stable unless he's seen something in the horse who has been highly tried in the early part of this year in Class 3 company. He should be more at home here and we have an extra place to fall back on which means I'll squeeze him given he isn't just a place prospect.

Dark Viper 7/1 six places – 13.25 Curragh

I am not sure how you can get away from this horse, so I won't even try, he makes more than enough appeal at the prices for the very well respected Jessie Harrington yard. A very highly tried 3-year-old who may now I'm selecting him be on the cool down after an extremely consistent season albeit without winning once.

The horse has never won in fact but has finished 2nd on his last 3 tries, including over C&D just over two weeks ago. Rated 65 that day with stable jockey Sean Foley on, he finished 2.75 lengths behind Purring Along when carrying 16lbs more. There's a 22lbs pull with that runner and given he is 3rd favourite, I am ready to risk now a talented apprentice is in the saddle. That race saw high numbers dictate which is a slight concern but from the bottom of the weights it will only be ”trainer interference” which see us tailed off.

Empirestateofmind 6/1 five places – 14.25 Curragh

I had no intention of trying to dissect any of the big field races at the Curragh but with the extra places and prices of the horses, there isn't much alternative.

I had Empirestateofmind on the radar for the Cambridgeshire recently, he finished 21st before typically winning next time out having dropped to a rating of 87. Although it is a lazy pick, we do have to take note that this in form John Quinn runner has been sent across to Ireland and still lurks on an attractive mark.

Raised just 5lbs for blowing away 15 rivals, I am ready to stick with him given the places on offer, the bookmakers take no chances in terms of his price, and you have to beleive the native's have at least one up their sleeve capable of beating him, but I don't think they're wasting the trip over and on form, he should be more than capable of getting involved.

Newtonian 12/1 five places – 15.43 Huntingdon

Five places attracted me to the concluding race at Huntingdon, a three mile hurdle in which plenty come here with claims in what could be quite a messy race for the places. Without delving into the chances of others, I am going to throw in Newtonian who looks overpriced having had a recent run after 5 months off.

He finished 3rd just 10 days ago at Ludlow, the form isn't anything special but a fair few of his rivals that day had had a run and given it's likely he can come on for the run, he should be more than capable of getting involved today just 3lbs above his win back in May. He carries a light enough wait and has shown enough consistency over this trip to overlook a few others who seem more assured.

WHAT IS A LUCKY 15 BET?

A Lucky 15 bet consists of 15 unique bets, covering every possible combination that comes from backing four selections. The 15 bets are broken down like this:

– 1 fourfold accumulator

– 4 trebles, with each treble omitting one of your selections

– 6 doubles, again covering every possible combination

– 4 singles

The attraction of a Lucky 15 is that it offers many more ways to win than a standard accumulator. A Lucky 15 uses both your acca and your singles as well as producing trebles and doubles that reward you for correctly calling 2/4 or 3/4 of your selections. To cover the 15 separate bets, a Lucky 15 uses your stake 15 times. If you were to place £1 on a Lucky 15, you would be staking £15 in total across the various bets.
