In terms of getting a run for our money, yesterday was much better, with Bridge Road clearly outrunning his early odds of 12/1 to finish second at Uttoxeter. Sadly, he couldn’t go one better.
Wolverhampton - 19:30 |
Not Just Yet |
10/1 |
On Saturday, I’m playing the waiting game, siding with Not Just Yet, who runs in the Wolverhampton race due to take place at 19:30.
I’ll start by saying that I really am surprised by early odds of 10/1, which at the time of writing are available at bet365. I’d say that such odds are something of a slight overreaction to the fact that he didn’t get seriously involved over seven furlongs last time out.
As far as I’m concerned, the gelding can be a much more serious player than the early odds suggest now back down in trip in what can only be described as a more suitable race, especially from a pace angle.
This trainer not to be overlooked at Wolves
There are a few things that I like about this horse, one of which is the fact that his trainer is no stranger to having her horses run well at Wolverhampton.
A small trainer in that she doesn’t send runners all over the place each and every day, Nikki Evans has a respectable record at this venue, especially during the current calendar year. 36% of the runners that she’s sent to the Midlands track in 2024 have either won or placed, while she also has a 50% win/place strike rate with Saffie Osborne in the saddle during that time.
Sure, the four-year-old failed to land a blow when making late headway from the rear last time out, but that was a small field race run at no sort of pace. Prior to that, over course and distance, with a decent pace to aim at, he ran on strongly to take a close-up second.
There should be a decent pace on here, with several who like to go forward and challenge for the lead, so something more akin to his penultimate effort could be on the way.
During 2023, he was a relatively useful all-weather handicapper in Ireland, running in, winning and placing in better races than this.
10 lbs below his last winning mark, in a race similar to the one that saw him go close over C&D recently, from a decent draw, for a trainer who does well here, Not Just Yet looks like a solid bet at odds of 10/1. He should be quite a bit shorter and likely will be by the time they leave the gates.
Based on a £10 level-stakes example, the Nap of the Day running profit is -£20.00 (since switching to being published here (10/09/2024) rather than on the ‘Nap of the Day' page).
