Lucky 15 New Featured Image

It has been a while since we've had a lucky 15 bet on the page but we are back on Saturday with four selections that we hope run well.

Weather Conditions may take a toll on racing tomorrow so wether we see all four runners perform is yet to be seen, but fingers crossed all goes ahead.

Cairnzy's Tips

Baikal 11/8 – Newcastle 4.15

None of the three newcomers spark much confidence and I think the market has the race correct with the top three in the market looking the most likely to come out on top.

I will stick with Sir Mark Prescotts Baikal, who came in for some market support on debut but could only manage a fourth place finish. My selection didn't break well on debut but did run a creditable enough race to finish around 2L off the eventual winner. My selection should come on plenty for the recent racing experience and she holds strong claims to get off the mark at the second attempt.

Handstands 6/4 – Ffos Las 1.15

Handstands would be my NAP of the day had I been covering the main thread but It is good to see Rizz thinking along the same lines. Rizz has already covered a write up on this horse on the main thread so to save time I have copied and pasted it onto the lucky 15 thread as he hits the nail on the head with everything he has mentioned.

Rizzel's write-up from the main thread

It's a bit of a pain that Handstands has to shoulder a 5lb penalty for his recent Grade 2 success at Sandown, as it makes this race competitive, whereas in my opinion, if they were racing off level weights, this wouldn't be a contest.

Handstands put the form right when winning at Sandown last time out in the Grade 2 as he was a faller on his chasing debut the time before. He has always been a horse who has been held in high regards by Ben Pauling, but he hasn't really had many tough assignments in his career to date apart from the Listed hurdle win, before flopping badly at Cheltenham and then winning a Grade 2 last time out. At the time of backing him to win his Listed novice hurdle race of Jango Baie, I thought that the form wouldn't be up to much, as I didn't rate the runner-up, who had previously won a weak Grade 1. However, I have been proven wrong as Jango Baie has become one of the best UK novice chasers of this season, winning at Cheltenham in exciting style, which has seen the form franked by the runner-up who has since won a Grade 3 by 9L.

Cherie D'Am is the main player in this race as she is a mare and gets the weight allowance, plus she has some decent form behind Johnnywho before she went to Wetherby and won a mares Listed race in a canter. I just believe that handstands form with Jango Baie is the strongest in this race, and if he is effective over fences over this shorter trip, which I think he is, then he should be tough to beat even with the penalty he has to carry.

Dunskay 6/4 – Ffos las 12.12

My third selection is another Ben Pauling runner but if fit and ready to go should be too much for this field.

Normally I tend to avoid backing horses on the back of long layoffs and backing Dunskay at 6/4 on the back off nearly a year off may seem a tad silly but I'm willing to roll the dice in the hope he is ready to rock and roll.

Ben Pauling seemingly holds this horse in some regard having found some comments made online about my selection stating that he hopes he could be part of his team that heads to the Cheltenham meeting in March. You'd assume with such comments that this race would possibly be a make or break for Dunskay to head to Cheltenham but you have to take such comments serious, particularly when they come straight from the horses mouth, pardon the pun!

Dunskays bumper win over Harry Frys Anno Power on debut is head and shoulders above anything on offer and if the recent wind surgery procedure has worked then Dunskay should be extremely tough to beat.

Alfa Charlie 8/1 – Fairyhouse 3.26

This race seemingly revolves around Gordon Elliot who appears to hold a strong hand with his two runners in Skylight Hustle and my selection Alfa Charlie. Skylight Hustle appears to be the more favoured of the two which is evidenced in the current market price of 5/4 but I thought Gordon Elliots second string was the more interesting of the two.

Alfa Charlies dam won a bumper and is related to Blue Las, a highly progressive sort so she could prove to be a bit of value at 8/1 if showing up to some sort of standard in what looks a pretty average affair.

Willie Mullins in the bumper is the shouts you hear from most punters but I wasn't taken back by Runcok who has the benefit of two career starts. 11/4 seems a tad short but of course the trainer and jockey combo always have a say in the matter.

Three of the four selections are on the shorter side of things so it will be a straight win bet advised for this Saturdays Lucky 15.
