Myself and Rizzel have previewed two races each from the meetings at Sandown and Haydock for Saturday's Lucky 15 tips.

Cairnzy's Tips

Wild Waves 5/1 – Haydock  2.05

Wild Waves showed promise in his recent victory at Doncaster. Despite moving up to a mark of 92 for this race, there is optimism for further improvement for trainer Andrew Balding.

Soprano 2/1 – Sandown 3.00

My selection recently won the Sandringham at the Royal meeting at 14/1 with a huge career-best. The quick turnaround on the back of a big run is a slight concern, but if you can look past that, then surely she is the one they all have to beat.

She's well clear of anything in this field and if turning up in similar form, will be hard to beat.  Young Billy Loughnane retains the ride and he'll be hoping to win again on the horse that gave him one of his biggest wins in his career to date.

Rizzel's Tips

Cicero's Gift – Sandown 2.25

Charlie Hills' lightly raced 4yo Cicero's Gift is surely worth a bet on his return to the track after a year off. This lad could easily be ahead of his mark, and given the strong vibes from the stable that he is a Group 1 horse, carrying top weight in a handicap shouldn't be an issue.

However, all of that depends on his fitness as he was rested for the rest of the season after his run in the St James' Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last year when he probably would've finished fourth if he didn't get blocked in running on a couple of occasions.

He hasn't been rushed back into racing as he has been back training since April, so they've taken their time with him, and based on that, you'd like to think he'd be fit enough to do himself justice. The rain, which is meant to fall, will be a benefit to him, and I think we'll get some decent odds on him.

Boardman – Haydock 4.25

Boardman has been a terrific servant for the Tim Easterby stable since they obtained him from Joe Tuite's yard in 2020. He has managed to win seven times for Tim, and has run in many races similar to today while landing a few of the prizes along the way.

At the age of eight, and without a win in over a year, you start to question how much he has left at the Class 2 handicap level. My answer would be that he deserves a few more chances, as he hasn't run badly in his races this season, despite his record on paper not looking the best.

His last two runs have seen him get no luck in running whatsoever, which isn't a surprise as one of those races was at Chester, where he had to settle in last place for the entire race, then had to track a wide course, and nothing really went right for him. Similar comments can be applied to his York run in a 17-runner field, where he got checked in running on a couple of occasions in the most crucial parts of the race.

His mark has dropped to 89, which seems to be a magic number as every time he has dropped to a mark of 90 he has won, but he got unlucky last time out on that rating, so given a clear run, he is dangerously well-handicapped from the bottom of the weights.

WHAT IS A LUCKY 15 BET?

A Lucky 15 bet consists of 15 unique bets, covering every possible combination that comes from backing four selections. The 15 bets are broken down like this:

– 1 fourfold accumulator

– 4 trebles, with each treble omitting one of your selections

– 6 doubles, again covering every possible combination

– 4 singles

The attraction of a Lucky 15 is that it offers many more ways to win than a standard accumulator. A Lucky 15 uses both your acca and your singles as well as producing trebles and doubles that reward you for correctly calling 2/4 or 3/4 of your selections. To cover the 15 separate bets, a Lucky 15 uses your stake 15 times. If you were to place £1 on a Lucky 15, you would be staking £15 in total across the various bets.
