Royal Ascot Day 3 Tips: A Gold Cup win will put Kyprios at the top of the staying division

Day 2 ended on a positive note for me as one of the gambles of the day, Little Big Bear, managed to win the Windsor Castle. That was a good performance and I think he won it more comfortable than it looked. Legend Of Dubai was without a doubt the biggest flop of the week for me. He was gambled into 7/2 from 13/2 and ran a stinker. I don't think that's his true showing and something was amiss or the occasion of Royal Ascot got to him with the big crowd etc so I think he is worth another chance. Love Reigns was a respectable race for Wesley Ward and Irad Ortiz but were simply outclassed by the winner and finished fourth, which was a decent showing.

You have some nice horses in this with the multiple previous winner, Stradivarius attempting to win this great race for the fourth time. I don't think he's as good as he was, and you'd like to think most punters would agree with that statement, as he clearly isn't. If he wins this tomorrow it would be a great shame for the staying division as it shows what a weak division it is if an 8yo manages to win this. Fair play to Strad, I love him to bits and has been a tremendous horse, but it's time for a new lad to stamp his authority. Trueshan would be of huge interest if the ground has soft in the description, but it doesn't, so shouldn't have much of a chance in this. I doubt he'll run unless connections get a miracle and get rain which hasn't been forecast. The one I think will run well at a price and is worth an EW shot is Mojo Star who is a top-quality animal, and probably a Group 1 horse over shorter, so it's interesting they've gone for this race on seasonal reappearance. I think he could run a big race.

KYPRIOS is the horse I've been wanting to watch the most this week. I've always been a big fan of his and tipped him up in the Lingfield Derby Trial last year where he ran a poor race, but it was quite apparent that soft ground isn't what he wants.

I tipped him up the time after at Royal Ascot in the Queen's Vase Group 2 but he was unruly at the start and was withdrawn. It was a real shame to see him withdrawn that day as I think I had it up at around 8/1 and he was gambled in strongly like a big run was on the cards. We didn't see him again for the rest of the season, but he came back with a bang into the 2022 season when thrashing Search For A Song in a Navan Listed race. The runner-up is no mug and is a previous Group 1 winner and he put her to bed with ease. I always thought he was a strong stayer so it wasn't a surprise to see the step up to 14f work a treat. He then hosed up in a Group 3 where he went of 1/10F, beating horses which are handicappers but he won by 14L and that run produced an RPR of 120.

This trip is 6f further than what he has previously been tried over, so it's a big ask and a big question mark at the same time as no one knows how he will take to it. Personally, I think this is tailor-made for him, and I've seen him as a Cup horse for some time, so it would be disappointing if he doesn't stamp his authority or at least go very close in this.

It is a shame that he is the favourite and as short as he is, as I was expecting 3/1 or somewhere in that region. Even though he is short odds, I will be backing him as I'm a huge fan and I think he has the potential to make this division his own over the next couple of years, until the going gets testing where Trueshan still hails as the King.

It's a shame to just have one bet for Day 3, but the aim of the game is to win money. I think today is a tough day for punters and nothing really stood out to me other than the one selection. Good luck with whatever you're backing and as always please put your bets down in the comments.
