It was nice to land a double yesterday with both selections winning with something in hand. The double paid roughly 17/1 depending on what prices you got, regardless it is a nice return and well done if you took the gamble on both.
Oisin Murphy decided to take Purefoy to the front and he didn't see another rival the entire race. My main selection of the day Sunday Soldier put in yet another tremendous performance to land the five timer. The handicapper clearly hasn't got hold of her just yet and she could be a major player next time out if turning up in the same form.
There is some decent racing at Kempton and the Curragh and I've a single selection from each meeting for tomorrow.
Maxux 4/1 – Curragh 14:55
Before I even talk about my selection It's worth noting that the Curragh has to survive an inspection in the morning as storm Kathleen continues to cause havoc on racing with meetings being called off left right and centre, fingers crossed it goes ahead.
This race looks a real hard one to solve with a lot of horses coming into this with chances but I thought the lightly-raced Maxux was worth a bet.
She was impressive when winning on debut last season at Gowran Park. She was then sent into stakes company where I thought she seemed to struggle a bit. That being said I'm more than happy to draw lines through them two runs as I feel it may of been a case of still being an inexperienced horse whilst also not appreciating the faster ground conditions.
She won a decent group 3 at Fairyhouse on her last start and looked to me like she was back to the impressive filly we originally seen on debut. She went clear by around four lengths inside the final furlong beating some half decent sorts in the process such as American Sonja and Village Voice.
The form of that particular race looks strong enough with Village Voice going on to win next time out in France in a group 3.
She carries a 3lb penalty in this contest which puts her on level weights with the current market favourite White Birch. White Birch has to bounce back after two below runs and I thought he may be vulnerable to Maxux who is clearly still improving.
Old Harrovian 5/2 – 14:40 Kempton
The Oisin Murphy and Andrew Balding combo gained me a winner yesterday and I'm hoping they can do the same for me this weekend with Old Harrovian.
He's been off the track for roughly a year but goes well fresh so the absence doesn't really put me off him. He currently has a rating of 93 which makes him very well handicapped for this race.
He is proven on the AW already with both runs on it resulting on him winning in a very decisive fashion. He beat home the now 88 rated Sea flawless which looks like a nice piece of form to take into this race.
Following his two successful outings on the AW he was then upped in grade quite drastically which resulted in him finishing sixth of seven in a group 3 at Newbury on turf. It wasn't until I watched a replay of that particular race and did a bit of digging that I realised his finishing position in that race was probably a decent effort.
He ran keenly which didn't help his cause and ended up finishing 9 lengths behind the winner. If you take into account the fact he was 15lbs wrong with the winner , 12lbs wrong with the second placed and 16lbs wrong with the third I'd say that is a pretty good effort given the circumstances.
Tomorrows contest represents a drop in grade and sees a return to the AW where as I've already mentioned he has a good record on.
Nice work yesterday cairnzy. Hopefully the dreaded Saturday will be kind to everyone!
Just add a little stat for anyone on Rizzles fancy for today….Yard have a 41% strike rate this season in handicaps at Kempton with 9 wins from 22 runners. Useful pointer for the future for anyone, if not for today.
My own bet today is Capo Vaticano from the same yard at Chelmsford 4.05 at 6/4.
This is a lovely filly, will be winning much better races than this. Looks an excellent starting point today. In recepit of 5lb. Related to same some useful sprinters. 5 furlong round Chelmsford should be perfect today. Yard are in excellent form, 25% strike rate the last fortnight. She’s very quick out of the stalls if that’s any help for those who look to back in running.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend and best of luck with your own bets .
I’m taking SP S on the fav hopefully everyone will follow you and make the fav drift out 😂 easy money 💰
