Sunday was a good day as both selections won with something in hand. The double paid around 8.5/1 If you took the advised odds when I posted last night.
Ciara Pearl is clearly a filly on the up and on that recent performance there should be more improvement to come as she still looks ahead of her current mark. My main selection Blue Day was given a lovely ride by Oisin Murphy, the Charlton yard can do little wrong at the moment and are definitely a yard to follow at present given their current strike rate.
The racing on Monday is filled with low grade flat racing which isn't that exciting. I have found one horse that I like the look off and It comes from the meeting at Ayr.
Pastrol Way 5/1 – 2:15 Ayr
The opening price for Pastrol Way is long gone however the current price off 5/1 still looks fair and I'm more than happy to have a small bet on the David O'Meara trained runner.
My selection finished 6 lengths behind Harswell Dandy when the pair made their debuts at Pontefract last week. Don't get me wrong, there was plenty too like about Harswell Dandy on debut. The Roger Fell trained runner wasn't fancied on debut last week but out-ran his 40/1 odds to finish second, 1 1/2 lengths off the eventual winner. A repeat off that performance along with expected improvement would see him bang there but at the prices I opted to look elsewhere.
My selection Pastrol Way didn't have an ideal start on debut, he missed the break and had to be pushed along to catch onto the tail end of the field. It's never ideal missing the break, but missing it in races over 5f will more times than most kill your chances of ever getting involved.
Danny Tudhope struggled to get an ideal position after missing the break and had no option other than to take Pastrol Way wide to make his challenge down the outside. He ran quite green, showing inexperience which is too be expected on debut. The penny somewhat dropped down the straight and he did start to stay on within the final couple of furlongs. With improvement expected, he has every chance of reversing the placings with Harswell Dandy.
Sad news just released from the Henderson stable that Shiskin has died after fracturing his hind leg.
Shiskin was due to leave for Punchestown in the morning.
One of my all time favourites and I’m sure he was a lot of others as well.
Very very sad indeed.
