Yesterdays selection was unfortunately a losing one. Toimy Son as I expected sat towards the rear of the field, at one point he looked like he was starting to make up ground on the leaders, but It wasn't to be.
There is plenty of racing on Monday, but It's all pretty low quality stuff, which is to be expected. Regardless, I've went ahead and gone for three selections that I hope run well.
Bonza Boy 7/4 – Ffos Las 2:42
My main selection of the day comes from Ffos Las in the shape of Bonza Boy.
The penny seems to have dropped with Bonza Boy recently and he comes here in great form in search of a hat-trick. His previous two runs have seen him win in impressive fashion. He won a class 4 handicap chase at Exeter by 19L in which 4 of the 6 runner field were eventually pulled up. He then followed up the Exeter success with another wide margin win at Hereford the following month.
Bonza Boy isn't a highly tried horse, he has very few miles on the clock over obstacles for a 7yr old. He arrives here 8lb higher which of course asks a further question of him, but given the fact he won last time out eased down tells me there is a strong chance this horse is open to further improvement and that he is able to complete the hat-trick.
Classic King 10/11 – Kempton 3:48
This is probably the shortest price runner I've put up on the thread and I do understand that backing odds on prices isn't for everyone. With that being said, I still think there is some value in the price and there is a chance he could slightly drift with the main market rival being in decent enough form. If you are happy with the price take it now, otherwise wait until the morning (9am) and you'll at least get BOG if it does drift.
Classic King in my eyes is still a very well-handicapped horse off a rating of 126 and he can count himself unlucky to not have another win to his name after falling last time out at Newbury.
He travelled beautifully around Newbury on his previous start, better than any other horse in the field. He was certain to go on and win had he not fallen at the last. If you dig a bit deeper into that race you'll find the form of it is actually pretty strong.
Ballybentragh who finished second on the day is now rated 128. I don't like to call jockeys out but David Maxwell has cost Ballybentragh multiple races, simply down to the fact he is a poor jockey. Maxwell owns and trains some lovely types and had he booked a more experienced jockey to take the rides on them, he'd more than likely be quids in.. must have money to throw away! Anyway onto to the third placed horse The Newest One, he finished six lengths behind that day and he is rated 127.
Taking the form of the Newbury race into consideration, along side the fact Classic King was sure to win hadn't he fell, that tells me right away that he is better than his official mark of 126.
Lightening Company 5/1 – Pontefract 2:52
Ben Haslams Lightening Company represents some value at 5/1 to win the same race he did last year.
He won this same race last year by one and three quarter lengths and although he hasn't got back to the winners enclosure since he has ran some decent races in defeat. A third place finish behind the Haggas trained La Yakel is a run that stuck out to me. The race may have been in September of last year, but La Yakel has won races and also ran well in defeat in class 2s since.
My selection made a satisfactory comeback run at Doncaster after 6 months off the track. He finished third, 4L off the eventual winner Qitaal who was making his debut run for Charlie Johnson that day. Qitaal was a surprise 14/1 winner that day but given the fact Charlie tends to do well with his new recruits, the surprise 14/1 victory first time out probably isn't that much of a surprise in the grand scheme of things.
It is worth noting that Haslam has his yard in cracking form at present, operating at a 50 per cent strike-rate in the last 2 weeks. Lightening Company comes here only 2lb higher and If able to build on his recent Doncaster run, he holds every chance in winning this race again.

Love this old boy he’s won 4 from 7 and very close in slightly better grade last run finishing fast so extra furlong and ease in grade looks ideal

Put this up last time at around sane price but was over 1 mile 110 yards, terrible start and really 1m+ was a daft experiment,Trainer not won a sprint at Turf Paradise for 1156 days so good stats 😂
