Racing tips: Si Elegant will appreciate the change in stable on chase debut

Congratulations to Micheal Nolan on finding trouble on Gingerbred over a 3m 1f chase race. I expect jockeys to struggle to find gaps on the flat, but not in a 3m race where you have plenty of time to get a position you want, and especially in such a small field, but Nolan managed that on Gingerbred. The best horse in the race lost, and you can say if he was good enough he would've won, but the horse only managed to get in the open after jumping the last and by that time he had 5L or so to find. The horse will win races in the future as his mark won't change, but that's one which got away.

Exeter 3:40 – Wind Tor

There are some lightly raced and definitely more progressive horses in this race but I am more than happy to have a EW punt on Wind Tor who could easily spring a surprise at the age of 12.

This horse seems to run her best races at Exeter, she is 2/4 at this track and is 2/3 over fences at Exeter, with the only blip at this course seeing her finish 3rd, so there is every chance that she can win again, or place at the very minimum now returning to a track she seems to really enjoy. It will be a tough ask for her at the age of 12, but she is still showing signs of ability based on her recent PTP runs which has seen her finish 3rd/4 (5L behind winner) and 2nd/8, and when you combine that with her ridiculously low handicap mark, she is definitely a dark horse. She has won off 86 and 94, take away 7lbs on both runs as Chloe Emsley has been on board on both occasions, but considering she is running off 78 which is 71 as Chloe is still claiming 7lbs, that makes her 16lbs lower than when she last won. Last March when she was 3rd at this track, the last time she was as Exeter, she was 3rd off a mark of 81, so I really do struggle not seeing her running a big race based on her handicap mark and her course form.

In hindsight, her win over Kestrel Valley has worked out very well as that horse has since improved from being rated in the 80s to now being rated 127 and has been placed in a Listed race at this track.

Leicester 4:20 – Si Elegant

Si Elegant has been in my tracker for over a year now as he caught the eye when finishing as runner-up at Newcastle when trained by Christian Williams, and he looked like a horse with plenty of ability and when stepped up in trip we would see the best out of him.

It's interesting that the owner has opted for the switch to Venetia Williams' yard and I do think it's evident that they are expecting a big run for his stable debut with the new trainer not messing around and putting him over fences after 349 days off the track. The same owners moved Montgomery from Christian's yard to Venetia and on that horse's first start for the new yard after a layoff he won first time out over fences, proving to be a well-handicapped horse and I think we can see something similar with this horse.

Christian Williams was vocal about this horse saying that he is going to be a nice horse over 3m for the future but they were keeping over the shorter trips to help teach him to settle, so if he has learnt from the move to the new yard then I think he could be on a very good mark and is worth chancing against the short-priced favourite.
