Racing Tips Return to good ground can see Classic outrun big odds

My selection yesterday Rajeteriat could only manage second place after being outstayed within the final furlong by the eventual winner. I couldn't find any excuses and the better horse beat him on the day.

A busy and competitive Saturday of racing awaits us and I've two each-way selections for tomorrow that I hope go well.

Night Eyes 10/1 EW – Sandown 2.40

This contest represents a significant step up in class for my selection but given the nature of her recent performances, I think it's well within reach, and at 10/1, Night Eyes is a decent each-way angle into this race.

My selection won a class 4 handicap at Haydock recently in pretty impressive fashion, that was of a mark of 85 and of course, she'll have to improve further to land this contest. That said, I can't help but be impressed by how she goes about her business. She is a strong traveling filly who seems to ease her way into contention quite effortlessly.

She has form on both good and soft ground, so conditions won't be an issue and if able to progress further, she could be a big player at attractive odds.

Classic 14/1 EW – Sandown 2.05

Another competitive handicap race and with 5 places on offer, I opted to look for an each-way angle into the race. My dart landed on Classic who at 14/1, represents some decent value at the prices.

Trainer Richard Hannon has always held Classic in high regard and he wasted no time in throwing him into the deep end in the Greenham Stakes last year. Although that race proved out of his reach, it was on unfavorable soft ground and he had excuses for underperforming on that occasion. Classic performs much better on a quicker surface, as evidenced by his victory in a seven-furlong handicap at this track last summer. During that race, he beat home Novus from the Gary Moore yard, Novus has shown significant improvement by winning and running creditably at group and listed level.

Classic later finished in the frame in a few competitive handicaps at Newbury, his run recently over a mile at Newbury was a cracking effort despite being outstayed by the eventual winner Crack Shot who previously had good form over the mile distance and ultimately stays the trip much better.

My selection wasn't seen to best effect at this venue when last seen, the ground conditions again were not in his favor. Classic was also returning from a 268 day break and should hopefully come on for the run. That race was won by Dual Identity who also runs in this contest and is marked up as one of the top three in the market at the time of writing. Dual Identity has a 6lb pull in the weights to contend with and with ground conditions back in Classic's favour, he could very easily outrun his 14/1 odds if coming on for his recent reappearance.
