Classic ran a cracking race to place second and gain us some each-way profit. A small profit is better than no profit and every little helps.
My other selection Night Eyes ran a good race to finish third, I advised each way on that one as well, however, due to a non-runner, only two places were on offer and therefore, the selection was a losing one.
The racing on Sunday is poor but I do have two selections that hopefully run well for us.
Mezzo Soprano 11/10 – Thirsk 16.45
My main selection on Sunday is a bit on the short side but at just over even money is worth a play in this contest.
My selection is now a four-year-old but remains a lightly raced filly having only started her racing career as a three-year-old. She only made three appearances last year and was nicely placed by connections as all three outings resulted in three wins.
The most recent victory was the one that caught my eye the most. It came at Kempton on handicap debut in October of last year, she showed a nice turn of foot to go clear within the final furlong and seemingly had more in the tank suggesting a 6lb rise in the weights is well within reach. The form of her recent start has also worked out well with the second, third and fifth all winning races since.
Mondammej 80/1 EW – Thirsk 17.45
I'm probably going a bit mad with my final selection on Sunday but I do believe Mondammej is overpriced at 80/1 and with 5 places on offer, he is worth a quid each way for the interest in what looks a wide-open handicap on paper.
With plenty of pace on offer, I'm hoping this race sets up for those held up in behind to pick up the pieces. My selection is now in the category of being a ‘veteran sprinter' and at the age of 7, is up against some improving youngsters. You have to stretch back to 2021, which is the last time Mondammej got his head in front. His last win came with a mark of 97, however, in his better days he placed in some decent handicaps of marks in the low 100s.
His form figures hardly inspire much confidence but he has shown glimpses of his old self, no more so than when contesting in a competitive class 2 handicap at York last month. My selection did finish twelfth that day, however, the finishing position doesn't tell the whole story as he only finished four and a half lengths of the eventual winner Clarendon House in what was a bunched finish in the end. For what it's worth, Clarendon House has been in cracking form this season and currently has an OR of 111. He was sent to Ireland during the weekend and landed a listed race by just under three lengths.
I know from looking at the comments that people like to use the each-way extra feature, which is on offer with Bet365. They are offering 45/1 for 6 places and 30/1 for 7 if that's an area that you wish to explore. I will be using the standard 5 places on offer as I feel the 80/1 is overpriced.

Few stats that might be of use for everyone today. Ed Bethell has a 24% strike rate with his 3 year old on turf this season. Yard have a 33% strike rate with their handicap runners in the last 5 seasons at Thirsk with 5 winners from 15. This season they have a 50% strike rate in these races at the track with 3 from 6. They have been targeting handicap races at the track the last few seasons.
This is a lovely gelding, has been really impressive in his 2 wins this season. Travels really well in his races and has shown a lot of speed, which is obviously just what is needed over 7 f at Thirsk.
Versatile in how he can be ridden,which is always a major plus when backing a horse. Connections have been quoted saying he could well be a pattern horse with a Group 3 pencilled in for the future.
Needs some rain today and it is forecast so it shouldn’t be a problem. Trainer will pull him out if it’s too quick.
Looks a more than fair opening handicap mark today imo. The key for me is them running at this track, really think it is just tailor made for him.

Highfield Sunshine 3.45 Thirsk 8/1
Had half a point on this one today. Lovely mehmas filly. Whether she can do the business today I’m not sure but she’ll be winning some nice races. Cost 80k at the breeze ups. You can get a look at her on you tube “lot 54 Mehmas Teodelight breeze ups”. Yard have done well with their 2 year old so far. Meant to have a good head on her so could well be going close today. Probably will drift so I haven’t taken a price yet. Good look at her in the parade ring and loading up. Worth a cheeky half point at possibly double figures.

Good auld girl and Jamie Ness ships her in from Philadelphia but has won here at Monmouth at same level and better, hes 2-2 at the meeting.
Race 7..Vamos Viejo 13/8 ****+
Gulfstream form is much better than these and nice comeback 2nd after 10 months off at Monmouth in this grade should tea him up nicely

Won this last year and just couldn’t get going in time finishing fast. Only beaten a nose 3rd over 1m 2f by good horses but 1m 6 furlong here and expect to be flying by them all in last few furlongs.
