Kikkuli managed to place at advised odds of 20/1 to pull some money back, but I was devasted that he could not get up on the line.
Overall, I'm glad to see the back of Royal Ascot. We had an okay start to the festival, but it was pretty much downhill after day two. It's a tough festival for punters and well done if you managed to walk away after the 5 days with more money in your pocket than you started with.
It's back to normality for a while and I've only a sole selection for racing on Sunday.
Hectic 11/2 – Pontefract 5.00
My sole selection on Sunday comes in the finale at Pontefract in the shape of Hectic. On paper, it's quite a decent class 3 contest, with several coming here on attractive marks due to running poorly over long periods of time. David O'Mearas's Darkness originally tempted me, he is on a very attractive mark and will win races sooner rather than later. His most recent run at Goodwood was rather underwhelming and for that reason I decided to leave him alone.
The one that caught my eye was Hectic for trainer Roger Fell, he is also a well-treated sort having run off 93 less than a year ago. His form dipped quite drastically, and as a result, he's dropped to a mark of 79, which makes him dangerously well-handicapped. Two decent runs at York and an even better effort at Doncaster suggest that a possible return to form is only around the corner.
There is some substance behind his recent run at York, which is probably worth mentioning. He finished under 6L behind the eventual winner Tolstoy, who was a shock 18/1 winner that day. Tolstoy then followed up the shock victory when winning again at the same track, after being gambled in from double figures to favourite before the off. That was a decent class 3 contest on paper, and he beat some decent sorts in the mid to high 80s such as New Image and Aalto.

Take the first junction if you can before the Tesco roundabout, there’s shit loads of roadworks here, making the footpaths wider and the roads narrower for a handful of cyclists FFS.
