Racing tips: Franny Norton can give Thunderous a front running masterclass around Chester

I was on the receiving end of the bad side of Chester, yesterday. Slow starters and my horses meeting trouble in running was a recurring theme, but that's part of the game when you're having a bed at Chester. Hopefully today we can avoid that and have two horses running from the front and dictating the race on their own terms.

Chester 2:40

I don't think this race is that strong, so a chance can be taken on one of the more lightly raced horses. STAR OF INDIA gets my vote, trained by Aidan O'Brien. The odds have plummeted on this horse, and he's around 6/4, but I think he could be better than this field so I'll be backing him.

This Galileo colt could improve this year for the step up in trip. He doesn't have the strongest of staying pedigrees, but more often than not Galileo's progeny seem to stay further than a mile and improve for the step up in trip. This horse won well on debut late last year, and made a decent return to the track at Newmarket in the Craven won by the eventual 2000 Guineas runner up, Native Trail. Star Of India was used handily that race, Ryan Moore decided to lead on him, which is why I think he could be a good bet around this track. We saw Ryan Moore take the initiative on Thoughts Of June and Changingoftheguard, so the fact this horse has already been a front runner in his short career to date suggests he could do the same in this.

Aidan has won this race eight times in the past, winning 6 of the last 9 renewals, so it's fair to say he knows what calibre of horse is required to win this. Also, his horse often come on for their first run of the season, which is another reason why I'd expect to see a big run today.

Chester 3:10

A horse who might see a bit of market support closer to the time is THUNDEROUS. On paper I'd imagine a high percentage of punters would give this horse no chance in this race, but the more I thought about it, I think he could run very well and is definitely an EW player.

As we've seen on many times before, Chester is a front runners track, especially if you get an uncontested lead. I'm not sure if Thunderous will get an uncontested lead, but I think he should be able to get to the front and hopefully dictate the race at whatever Franny Norton wants. Franny rides this track better than anyone, which is a always a bonus having him in the saddle of your selection. This horse has already had a run this season, even though it was below par, he did the same last year before running some nice races as the season progressed. I think that run would've put him right for a race like this and when you consider only two others in this race have had a run this year, there is a strong possibility a lot of these will need the run.

The ground shouldn't be a concern as he has won on slow ground before. I get the feeling he will enjoy this track. He will be able to bounce out from Stall 4, and hopefully make all. He's still double figure odds, which is a definite EW bet in my eyes.
