Trying to pick the bones out of poor-quality racing can be an absolute nightmare and that's been the case for me the past few days.
My selection was one of the gambles of the day that never went in our favour. He drifted out to 9s at one point and was backed right into favourite before the off.
He was ridden positively and he looked to be travelling well but found nothing off the bridle and was quickly swallowed up in the business end.
There's some decent racing on Saturday and I'm hoping for a turn of fortune.
Purple Ribbon 11/2 – 2:47 Lingfield
Although carrying top weight is never ideal Purple Ribbon I think has a cracking chance of doing so at quite a nice price.
Purple Ribbon only went racing twice in 2022.
She finished fourth at Lingfield last August which was a decent comeback run given she was of the track for a fair while before that.
She then ran a cracker, when taking Belloccio all the way to the line to only be beaten by a neck in a listed class one at Kempton last November.
The run at Kempton saw her mark rise to 102. Therefore she has to carry top weight which I've already touched on.
She drops back in trip from 1m4 to 1m2 which shouldn't cause any drama as she has run and won over this distance in the past, so be it in lower grade stuff than she'll contest in today.
She's still lightly raced and the opposition she finished ahead of at the Kempton run were decent sorts which included the Charlie Appleby due of Siskany and Wild Crusade.
Maybe also worth mentioning she finished ahead of Berkshire Rocco on that occasion who won quite recently. Although that one took a significant step up in trip to 2m and is more known now a days for running over further than what Purple Ribbon runs over.
Current market favourite Al Agaila is clearly a very impressive horse who's on an upwards curve although takes a hike in the weights for this and at 10/11 I wouldn't be near it.
Ryan Moore returns to Lingfield and has a handful of runs for George Boughey. When Moore goes to Lingfield he's normally your man so I've gone for a little acca for him to place in all 4 of his races for the interest.
Ryan Moore place acca
-Ehteyat 11/4 ( 3 places) 1:55
-Pocket The Packet 11/8 ( 2 places ) 12:27
-Paris Lights 8/11 ( 3 places ) 1:37
-All The Kings Men 8/11 ( 3 places ) 2:12
Acca pays 8.66/1
