Rizz managed to walk away with one winner on Sunday in the shape of Ray Mon Dough, who was tipped up at 10/3 last night and went off a 13/8 favourite in the end. Hopefully some of you managed to grab the price of 10/3, as Rizz mentioned in his write-up that he was surprised his selection wasn’t marked up favourite for the contest to begin with.
Rizzel’s other selection ran over in France but could only manage a third place finish. Stolen Kiss did run a nice race, with the winner, second and third being separated on the line by roughly a head or so.
Star Cast 3/1 – Ayr 3.15
Monday racing, as we all know, can be quite dire at the best of times, but I thought Gemma Tutty’s Star Cast was a decent bet at a respectable price of 3/1.
I don’t believe this race is as competitive as the numbers suggest, and personally thought there were more arriving with question marks on their heads than anything. From glancing through the field, I thought there were a lot of horses arriving here out of sorts or, at the very least, to a non-consistent level.
Star Cast ticked most of the boxes for me and seemed the safest option to get the job done. My selection comes in good form, with recent form figures of 113211 and notably comes here on the back of a short break which should have freshened her up after a busy enough campaign so far. Although carrying 10st 2 and risen 5lb for her most recent success at this very same venue, I still thought she was handily weighted to be in with a shout of going in again for trainer Gemma Tutty. Apprentice jockey Jake Dickson takes of 5lb, and he notably was on board this horse when winning last time out.
I did catch a replay of Star Cast’s last outing and thought she travelled beautifully throughout that contest. She eased into contention when entering the final couple of furlongs and was easily on top at the finish. I think a repeat performance would see her hard to beat.
Coxy’s Star 12/1 EW – Kempton 4.00
The Kempton card as a whole is pretty woeful to say the least, but I thought Coxy’s Star was worth a small dabble at the prices for the Muir & Grassick team.
The race itself is wide open and not normally one I’d get involved with, but I thought Coxy’s Star was being potentially overlooked on handicap debut at 12/1.
She has only had three races to date but has progressed quite nicely with each run. She showed very little on debut when finishing last of 12 at Windsor back in July of 2025. With that said, she has seemingly come on bundles during her time away from the track and has finished fifth and fourth in her last two outings. Her most recent outing was the one that caught my eye. It came in a Class 5 contest at Southwell over 7f. She wasn’t exactly fancied in the market that day when sent off at 40/1, but she knuckled down well to finish just over 1L behind the eventual winner Miss Gallant, who is now rated in the low 70s on the back of that performance.
