Sunday saw yet another Nap be well supported in the betting, this time going off as the 9/4 favourite having been tipped at 7/2, but there was more frustration as Long Draw could do no more than challenge at the last before failing to get by the winner. Close, but no cigar.

A new week begins with a bet at Southwell, where ahead of the contest taking place at 18:30, top-weighted Amerjeet catches the eye at early odds of 11/1.
Last time out at Beverley, the gelding failed to get seriously involved, but he was denied a clear run at a crucial stage and was then eased, so we shouldn’t be too quick to dismiss him on that basis, especially as the form of that contest looks OK.
Return to the all-weather rates as a positive
Prior to that effort at Beverley, the Archie Watson runner performed admirably over this distance at Lingfield, getting the job done with a bit in hand, so I really wouldn’t be surprised if a mark of 82 turned out to be well within his grasp.
The horse that finished second to him in that Lingfield event has since gone on to win a race not dissimilar to this, while the horse that finished third has since won twice, winning a novice contest that contained a little more depth than this affair.
Luke Morris was on board for that Lingfield win and returns to the saddle here, which is positive given that only Hollie Doyle has ridden more winners for Archie Watson. Watson and Morris have a decent strike rate together, while Watson is also a trainer that does a decent job at Southwell.
The two-year-old’s only previous effort at Southwell, which came over C&D back in April, wasn’t discouraging, with him finishing a not-far-away fourth in a decent novice contest. He was hampered that day and wasn’t given a hard time by his rider, yet still finished close to opponents that have since gone on to achieve ratings of 80, 87 and 84.
Looking at my speed figures, he’s top of the pile too, which along with everything else, simply makes odds of 11/1 look a little too user friendly to miss.
