Tramuntana was well backed on Tuesday, going off considerably shorter than the recommended early odds of 14/1. Without threatening to win, he ran respectably for third. There’s likely a victory in him soon. Anyway, time for Friday’s Nap.
Sandown - 15:05 |
Jupiter Allen |
10/3 |
Ahead of Friday’s racing at Sandown, I’m taken by Jupiter Allen, who looked like a potential improver when winning over fences on his reappearances, a victory that was pleasing given that it was only his second start over the large obstacles. There’s clearly room for further advancement.
Hard to dismiss when going right-handed
Going right-handed certainly seems to be the key to this unexposed sort, with each of his three wins (in both codes) coming at right-handed tracks. His stats in races of this nature are also very promising, with the gelding winning three of his five runs at right-handed tracks in fields of ten runners or less, never finishing out of the places.
It’s also hard to argue that this is a race containing a little less depth than the one he won at Exeter just over a month ago, so it’s not as if he’ll have to find bags of improvement to get seriously competitive here.
What’s more, the horse that he narrowly beat at Exeter has since gone on to win a better race than this. That evidence further bolsters his claims.
With that recent reappearance win under his belt, and with Sean Bowen in the saddle, which looks like a very positive jockey booking, I really wouldn’t be surprised if this one took another step in the right direction, so much so that early odds of 10/3 look on the large side. I certainly won’t be surprised if he jumps off a good bit shorter than that.
Based on a £10 level-stakes example, the Nap of the Day (after 70 Naps) has a running P/L of +£45.00 (since switching to being published here (10/09/2024) rather than on the ‘Nap of the Day' page).
For those interested, here’s a monthly profit and loss breakdown (again based on a £10 level-stakes example):
September 2024 = +£34.00
October 2024 = +£6.00
November 2024 = +£15.00
