Despite a couple of decent-priced single winners, the selections on a whole have been well short recently, I've continued to take chances today but we can expect better than yesterday. If we continue to slide less chances can be taken to balance things out but I'll be putting some thought into this bet over the weekend to see if I can structure it in a more reliable manner.

Attacanter's Tips

Bushfire 9/2 four places – 17.20 Redcar

I was going to include Going to the Moon in this at a crazy price but I seem to be taking enough chances at present and have decided to settle for Bushfire who unfortunately sites near the top of the market up against an even more likeble sort from Ruth Carr.

As with most horses in this race, the profile isn't overly appealing but I can certainly see why he is this price. The horse hasn't won in 13 starts but has mixed in Class 4 races which allows us to overlook the long losing run now at this level.

The last time this horse did win was just over a year ago, it was on the AW over a mile but most of his form is over today's trip. He won before that at Haydock on similar going today which all bodes well now rated 5lbs below his last win. He was 4th of 16 in June just gone and besides last time, had some relatively acceptable form.

The horse doesn't get the assistance of any weight from her apprentice but that isn't always a bad thing, the last win she had was actually for this trainer, with these owners, at this track.

Villainess 8/1 four places – 17.05 Uttoxeter

I have long been a fan of Richard Bandey, many of us will have small trainers who have landed us good results that are then ‘followed' for a good while after. The trainer has been quite successful with a small amount of runners since my time in racing, he's not been quite the force recently but I will still be checking all of his over.

Villainess hasn't been seen since May when the curtain went down on her first season over the obstacles. That run was off the back off her first and only win at Stratford rated 103 in a Class 4. The horse see beat – Hard as Nails is a Fergal O'Brien trained mare who's finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 1st since. The 3rd hasn't been quite as good but did win immediately after.

There is clearly a chance this race is just a pipe opener but with two 2nds to her name, I am willing to take the chance we can see an honest performance, this race is a level she should be more than comfortable in and her price is fair enough.

Ruling Master 9/2 – 15.02 Redcar

Marco Botti's Holy Roman Emperor colt made his debut back in early September before a better showing two weeks later over a mile at Yarmouth. Hollie Doyle took the ride, he travelled well enough for a 28/1 shot, when looking well beaten he did at least manage to stay in contention for the places.

The drop back to 7f today is only likely to suit, I won't be put off by the ground either. The trainer's top jockey is back on board and we can be enthusiastic about the place claims without having much to go on.

Strong Run 8/1 – 17.40 Uttoxeter

Fergal O'Brien is one of the top UK jumps trainers, Johnny Burke began to ride for him more frequently when taking over on board Crambo last season as some of you will remember. Since then he has been given enough winners the trainer and their names are firmly in the notebook this season but I am still willing to take a punt on the yard's unraced newcomer.

WHAT IS A LUCKY 15 BET?

A Lucky 15 bet consists of 15 unique bets, covering every possible combination that comes from backing four selections. The 15 bets are broken down like this:

– 1 fourfold accumulator

– 4 trebles, with each treble omitting one of your selections

– 6 doubles, again covering every possible combination

– 4 singles

The attraction of a Lucky 15 is that it offers many more ways to win than a standard accumulator. A Lucky 15 uses both your acca and your singles as well as producing trebles and doubles that reward you for correctly calling 2/4 or 3/4 of your selections. To cover the 15 separate bets, a Lucky 15 uses your stake 15 times. If you were to place £1 on a Lucky 15, you would be staking £15 in total across the various bets.
