Willie made it another great day, rounding it off in the bumper with his 100th Cheltenham Festival winner, which is some going. There won't be as good of celebrations for the Mullins team as El Fabiolo was pulled up in the Champion Chase, being the first real hot pot to boil over at this year's Festival.
Dan Skelton did Dan Skelton things and got a quickfire double on the day with Langer Dan and Unexpected Party. The latter was a winning 16/1 selection put up yesterday and he is just very good at conning the handicapper, and that is why Langer Dan has managed to win a second Coral Cup. Whether or not you think it's a great training performance, you can't fool the public now, he is swindling the handicapping system and if it's there to be done, then crack on with it, but it's not a great look though.
All of my detailed previews for Day 3 at the Cheltenham Festival can be found below.
- 13:30 – Turners Novices' Chase
- 14:10 – Pertemps Network Final Handicap Hurdle
- 14:50 – Ryanair Chase
- 15:30 – Paddy Power Stayers' Hurdle
- 16:10 – TrustATrader Plate Handicap Chase
- 16:50 – Ryanair Mares' Novices' Hurdle
- 17:30 – Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Amateur Jockeys' Handicap Chase
13:30 – Turners Novices' Chase
The more I look at this race, the more I think Djelo has a decent chance. Obviously taking on the Irish in the Grade 1 races isn't the smartest of things to do, but their runners in this race don't look as strong as they have done over the years, so I'm more than happy to go with a British runner. Djelo stood out to me as the horse who could be running up the hill strongly, especially on testing ground and if they go a good gallop.

Le Milos will have to go against recent history to win this at the age of 9, with the last winner being 8yo+ was back in 2011, but I do think he has a squeak in this. We all know how good a target trainer Dan Skelton is, he has shown it time and time again, even at the Cheltenham Festival when winning the county hurdle 3x and the Coral Cup last year he is mustard with the handicap hurdles, not only at Cheltenham but everywhere in the UK.
This race hasn't been won by the great Willie Mullins, but he doesn't send many horses for it, so it's not a great surprise. In the last ten years, he has had two runners in this race, 7th in 2021 and 14th in 2017, but I don't think either of those had the same chance as Icare Allen does. I think that is a great bit of placing by Willie to send him over to Aintree to get qualified as the Irish races are normally big fields and trying to gently ease him into the top four can be hard.

14:50 – Ryanair Chase
Envoi Allen rolled back the years when winning this race last year and I think he has another cracking chance of winning it again. He was the horse on everybody's lips just a few years ago, but since leaving Gordon Elliott the bubble did burst. However, Henry De Bromhead got him back to winning ways and he showed his class when powering up the hill last year.

If I wasn't to back Sire Du Berlais and he was to win, I would be crying myself to sleep for the rest of the year, so I am sticking with my old friend who dug me out of the dumps last year when landing this race at odds of 33/1. The more I look at this race, the more I think he is being overlooked yet again.
Full race preview:
- 15:30 – Paddy Power Stayers' Hurdle
16:10 – TrustATrader Plate Handicap Chase
Crebilly has been one of the most well-backed horses of the week and even antepost in the handicaps for the Cheltenham Festival and though he is touching the short side, I think he just wins, if escaping any blunders or inconveniences. We talk about finding well-handicapped horses in handicaps like this, well this lad is the perfect description of that.
I do love an outsider at the Festival and I'm going to be giving a chance to Ciel De Neige. Ben Haslam has acquired this horse from Willie Mullins, but is still owned by JP McManus, and over the years the Haslam stable has been the retirement home for JP's horses, with them landing the occasional gamble with horses falling right down the handicap. This horse seems a bit different and it's interesting that they are coming to the Cheltenham Festival.

16:50 – Ryanair Mares' Novices' Hurdle
A horse I've been sweet on for this race since she has been running in bumpers is Brighterdaysahead. I really do think this horse is a machine and a wonder mare for the future. The way she came into the racing scene in her bumper debut was very impressive, she has done little wrong since moving over to hurdles, winning 3/3 and her latest win in a Listed race whilst carrying a penalty was flawless.

I'm having two darts at this race and my first fancy is an old selection of the thread, Rapper. Over the last few years this horse has been laid out for a big run around New Year's Day, but this year he didn't make an appearance until the Classic Chase at Warwick which was a very poor performance. I was more than happy to give him another chance the time after at Ascot where he finished 2nd at odds of 18/1 and with an extra furlong, or even a few extra yards he probably would've won.
Where It All Began is my second fancy for the final race of Day 3. This horse put a dampener on me the last time he ran as he beat my strongly fancied runner, We'llhavewan in the Grand National Trial. That was a seriously strong staying performance and to beat the runner-up by 16L, who was clearly a non-stayer, was visually very impressive and with him still being unexposed at this trip he is a huge player for me in this race.

Day 3
1.30 Grey Dawning 9/4 i am waiting on him for a nice little treble 4/1 i backed him .
2.10 Le Milos 5/1 I backed him at 14/1 ew.
2.50 Banbridge i can not see this lad running ground is against him .so i am going to back Conflated 17/2 ew
3.30 Sir Gerhard 6/1 i have backed this one at 33/1 ew before Christmas so hoping he gets the trip

4.50 Betterdaysahead 11/8 is Gordon Elliott’s Banker
5.30 Angles dawn 17/2 last years winner always give you a run for your money
Agree with Banbridge , I have a Ante Post bet on him , but because of the ground , I go with Envoi Allen now .
Congratulations on the nice little treble Mr plug .

Repost from Tuesday’s thread
???????????
Prestbury cup standings are now 10-3 to Ireland which is better than I thought it could be, thank god for Dan Skelton.
He is proving a dab hand with these handicap stings and he has one in the 2-10 tomorrow.
Los Milos not surprisingly has been backed to 8-1 third favourite of the 24 runners.
This bio I’ve just read reminds of Langer Dan’s today.
” Well beaten back hurdling on both starts this season but THROWN in if judged on best chasing form”
Were his shit hurdle runs this season designed to keep the handicapper at bay ????
I suggest they were……
8-1 win bet365 (small play)
And single split into 2 bets
13-8 top 5 finish
23-20 top 6 finish
Both at BETFAIR
Of course it will now run like a pig won’t it ?
********************************************
Hitman 2-50 Cheltenham
4-1 top 4 finish (single) Boyle sports)
And
14-1 bet365 ew extra 6 places.
Nicholls 2nd string, been struggling this season but more like it last time a month ago being outstayed on this ground by shishkin over 3 furlongs further than this race
3rd in this race last year at 22-1 so knows his way round Cheltenham a couple of lengths behind envoi Allen and right up shiskin’s arse in 2nd place.
Cheltenham
1-30 Zanahyir
5-2 top 4 finish (single)
10-1 ew extra 6 places
2 placings in the champion hurdle here suggest he could place if replicating that over the big sticks.
???????????
2-10 Le milos
8-1 win bet365 (small play)
And single split into 2 bets
13-8 top 5 finish
23-20 top 6 finish
Both at BETFAIR
???????????
Hitman 2-50 Cheltenham
4-1 top 4 finish (single) Boyle sports)
And
14-1 bet365 ew extra 6 places.
Good write up elvis? spot on regarding skelton.
Hi
Cheltenham / Day 3
Yankee / Each – Way
R . 1 – Grey Dawning
R. 2 – Envoi Allen
R. 4 – Crambo
R. 5 – In Excelsis Deo
G. luck & enjoy Day 3 !!
I’ve quite a few bets already done for today but with things a bit clearer will just put up what I fancy for each race rather than put up everything as most won’t like the conditions anyway.
1.30 Facile Vega
Been crying out for a longer trip and finally gets it so no excuses now.
2.10 Cleatus Poolaw 7/1 ew
Qualified comfortably and 139 should be manageable
2.50 Ahoy Senor 14/1 ew 4 places
If he’s on a going day has every chance.
3.30 Teahupoo NAP
This horse makes or breaks my Cheltenham. He’s clear in ratings, a year older and stronger, is 6-6 when having a break of over 50 days, and probably most important of all will have Jack Kennedy on his back instead of an over the top Davy Russell as was last year. The opposition are mainly a bunch of pensioners so if he can’t beat this lot he should pack it in.
4.10 Shake ’em up Harry 10/1 ew 5 places
Won well lto over C&D and only raised 4lbs. Is a 10yr old so goes against trends but yard still performing well and should give a run for your money
4.50 Brighterdaysahead NB
Elliott won’t hear of defeat for this horse and when he goes on like that he’s usually right as with Samcro and Envoi Allen in the past
5.30 Where it al lbegan 9/1 ew 6 places
This is going to take some getting in the conditions but lto he won a listed GN trial over 3m 3f by 16L.
Is 12lbs higher here but that seems fair with such a wide margin win
BOL
I am hoping Zanahiyr don’t win the first race after putting him up the first day ew at 40/1 but i do think he will run a big race best of luck Elvis , i wouldn’t put anyone off putting a few bob ew on him
Got my 5-2 single and place money off him plug so pleaded enough with his effort.
Judging by the SP a lot were on him today, was 22-1 yesterday afternoon…..
.
3-30 asterion forlonge.
20-1 bet365 ew extra 6 places.
4-10 glengouly
10-1 bet365 ew extra 10 places
4-50
dysart Enos 5-2 betting without betterdaysahead 5-2 NAP ?.
Majestic force 16-1 bet365 ew extra 6 places.

Placepot down in the 1st race ??.
Zanahyir hung on for my single and a bit of ew place money which eases the pain a touch.
Just a very quick share of my bet at Chelmsford tonight incase anyone else had spotted this one. Hope everyone is having a great Cheltenham.
Loughville 8pm Chelmsford 10/3
Odds have been slashed overnight. Best I can see is 9/4 now. Connections believe she has probably a stone on this field today. She has been working very well on the AW Sharpridge Hill gallop at Barbury Castle. Alot of confidence from the yard. Wind op has transformed this unexposed type. Expect a very easy win tonight.
Rossa under instructions to leave it as late as possible so I’ll be looking at any winning distance markets for under a length.
Best of luck everyone with your own bets today and hope everyone is keeping well,
You’ve hit a poor spell hibee1.
a stone in hand he must have been a stone over weight ?
Question ?
Do folk still think Bambridge will be pulled out Ryanair Chase or if not is it still too soft?
Hes 4/1 now and “soft, heavy in places “ but drying out as the light drizzle forecast hasn’t even arrived – although still time for it of course.
If he runs he wins imo hes the best horse in the race. I very much doubt JOB will run him unless he thinks he can win
Sack that i see the weather reports changed to drizzle asap and showers come 1pm onwards.
Morning All .Great day Tuesday . Only had one bet yesterday on the O,Brien wnner at Huntingdon 6/1 But hope you all did well at Cheltenham.
Again today my main bets are at the off meeting at Hexham so dont know if theres any interest with everyones eyes on Cheltenham.
HEXHAM
15.50. .Cream Of The West . .got 11/8 earlier but now around evens or slightly odds on so value disappearing
.Narrowly beaten by Shoeshine Boy at Ayr last time. Shoeshine Boy winning at Kelso on
. Sunday boosting the form. Not something I normally do but think Josie Alice 15/2 will
.improve in same race so small r/v f/c.
16.30. .Cudgel. 9/2. .Favourite of mine this oldie but think theres a decent chance today.
17.00. .Raffles Wonder. .3/1
CHELTENHAM .Couple of Small e/w bets only
15.30. .Crambo. .15/2. . E/W
16.10. .Shakem Upharry. .10/1. .E/W
GL ALL
Bus stop I’m waiting on the 16.30 for a wee double at the moment I took Ribeye though last night got it at 9/4 now 6/5 I’m hoping that’s a good sign for me ?
God luck mate ?
Should hit refresh first.
Cheers D.C.. ?
That’s my thinking but as say the report doesn’t look good but if I put him in a Yankee etc then only risk really is it just becomes Void as if he runs surely conditions seem decent for his chances ?.
Sir Gerhard and Where it all Began , singles and Double
Good Luck
hope your right with Sir Gerhard Dunc good luck

Plug
You were right Sir Gino now a NR.
Hendo says he’s in great shape but won’t run him because of how other horses have run, yet Luccia and Lucky Place both ran career bests ??
As far as I’m concerned he just protecting his unbeaten record, pathetic.
