It was nice to land a winner yesterday with Eye Of Dubai who seems to plow through testing ground with ease. The step up in trip worked a treat and he is definitely one to look out for next time out, as he looks a fair bit ahead of his current mark on that performance.
There is plenty of racing tomorrow with 6 meetings on throughout both UK and Ireland. I've picked out three selections that I hope to run well.
Ali Star Bert 15/8 – 2:05 Southwell
For my main selection of the day I've gone for the Shaun Harris trained Ali Star Bert who takes a drop in class for this contest at Southwell.
He unseated jockey Jack Quinlan last time out at Haydock after making a mistake five from home. He was bang there in contention travelling well before the error and I'm hoping he can put that behind him today.
Prior to his last outing Ali Star Bert was in fine form with figures reading 1121. He's a horse who seems to stay the 3m well and given he has already won over this distance on multiple occasions you can assume stamina won't be an issue for him. He is also proven on testing ground conditions which is what he will encounter today.
Current market leader Galway Mahler is also in great form having raked up a trio of wins in the last few months, he is still unexposed having only been run 12 times and although he won last time out with a fair bit in hand I think there is a chance the 11lb rise could make him vulnerable.
Ballygriffincottage 4/1 – 5:05 Warwick
Carrying top-weight is never ideal, particularly on heavy ground however I fancy the chances of Ballygriffincottage pulling it off with the Skelton team being in top form this term.
He was at one point starting to look like a bit of a lost cause having been pulled up twice within 3 runs however a spark of revival was shown at Ascot in February where he ran well behind the likes of Threeunderthrufive, Victtorino and Rapper. He then followed up the Ascot run when running a blinder to finish second at Sandown behind Rose Of Arcadia who is a decent sort and a proper stayer.
My selection has been put up 3lb for those efforts but still remains unexposed for a nine-year-old and If getting into a nice rhythm could definitely have a part to play in this.
Bellshot 2/1 – 7:00 Wolverhampton
A horse that I was rather impressed with last time out and stuck in my tracker as a result was Bellshot.
Bellshot made the switch from Robert Cowell to the Mick Appleby yard towards the end of February this year and Mick seems to have done what Mick does best which is turning horses who are out of form into form.
I really liked his first outing for Mick a few weeks ago at Lingfield where he kicked nicely around the bend showing a nice turn of foot in the process. Although only winning by a length in the end I thought he had a fair bit in hand to take this step up in class in his stride.
Richard Spencer's Giant is the one horse I'm slightly worried about as the yard are in decent nick at present. Giant won nicely last time out and is up 6lb as a result which I'm hoping will aid Bellshots chances of making it 2 from 2 under Mick Appleby.

BOL
2 duck eggs today. Disappointed with the effort from JDD. He had easily the best form going into the race and had the first choice stable jockey onboard. Early money came but it was the 2nd string that ended up fav by off and of course it won.
Difficult to see that would have happened unless you’re part of the yard.
