THE Aberdeen Asset Paul Lawrie Matchplay moves from Murcar Links, where Kiradech Aphibarnrat won last year, to the Archerfield Links near North Berwick.

This is the first time the East Lothian course has hosted a European Tour event and is the 21st different Scottish course to host one since the Tour’s inception in 1972.

As it’s difficult to pick a winner in a matchplay format so I’ve decided to put up a small treble for Thursday’s first round.

Alvaro Quiros takes on Englishman James Morrison in what could turn out to be a great match. Both players have had not played to their potential recently but the Spaniard might just have it here.

Scot Marc Warren was beaten by Aphibarnrat last year in the semi and you can never rule him out but another Spaniard Jorge Campillo could have the better of him. Campillo played well in the Scottish Open at Castle Stuart, finishing eighth, and I can see him continuing that form.

Kristoffer Broberg from Sweden is another who has gone off the boil recently but he is good enough to defeat Englishman Matthew Southgate.

2pts Treble
