Well, here it is golfing fanatics as we all look forward to the FedEx playoffs starting with the FedEx St Jude Championship at TPC Southwind, Memphis, Tennessee.
The 125 field will all be competing for a share of the $ 15 M prize purse with the winner collecting the FedEx St Jude Championship title and a cheque for $2,700,000.
Just a quick update from last weekend before I continue. On the PGA tour, we could only manage T5th place with Russell Henley at 25/1 EW. It was yet another maiden PGA victory in the shape of Joohyung Kim ( just call him Tom) who clinched the Wyndham Championship in terrific style.
The young South Korean now becomes the first ever player born from 2000 onwards to win on the PGA tour and the second youngest since World War 2.
On the DP World Tour, we had both Eddie Pepperell and Marcus Armitage in contention for most of the way at the Cazoo Open and at one point it looked as if both would get a place at worst.
However, the drink had other plans as that’s where both ended up on more than a few occasions to hamper any chances. We did however manage to land both Match bet Naps once again so keep an eye out for this week's Naps as we look to continue the good record with the head-to-head.
TPC Southwind will be playing 7,244 yards long this week. It’s a par 70 parkland layout and a golfers paradise where everything is neat and tidy, I mean everything right down to the blades of grass where the key attribute will be accuracy and precision. Just ask Tony Finau who returns to defend his crown in the form of his life, he’s almost certainly one to be thinking seriously about again this week.
The weather is forecast to be very hot and sunny for the most part with some showers predicted for Thursday's opening round. Breezes shouldn’t pose any problems peaking at around 10mph.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf & Sky Sports Main Event with live coverage starting from 6 pm on Thursday evening.
So let’s move on with our predictions for this week's FedEx St Jude Championship where the world's golfing elite tee off for the start of the playoffs.
Tony Finau
For my first and main betting tip in Memphis, I’m going to recommend the man in form Tony Finau 22/1 EW 1-8 places Betfred. The 32-year-old old from Salt Lake City is riding a proverbial golfing tidal wave at the moment and he will relish the opportunity to defend his crown this weekend.
It doesn’t get much better than this folks, Tony Finau has won his last two events and will be going for the hattrick at TPC Southwind. A winner last time out at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and also Champion previous to that at the 3M Open, are the firms awake here with 22/1 on offer and nowhere up there with the favourites.
I’m most certainly not complaining and neither should you with tasty odds on offer for the man on fire. The ever-talented Finau can also back those victories up this year with two runner-up places when finishing 2nd at the RBC Canadian Open and T2nd at the Mexico Open at Vidanta. On the stats front, the gentle giant sticks out a mile with so many figures that read remarkable.
On the PGA Tour, this season Tony Finau ranks 14th Birdie Average at 4.19, 12th SG Total, 11th Scoring Average at 69.809, 9th SG Approach The Green, 11th SG Off The Tee, and finally keep the best for last 5th SG Tee To Green.
I don’t need any stats or figures to say that Finau is in a different league at the moment, I’ve been watching him closely and it would come as no surprise to see Tony Finau crowned as defending champion with a hattrick in the bag at the same time.
Sam Burns
For my next suggestion, I’m going to point you all in the direction of Sam Burns 33/1 EW 1-8 places Skybet. Again I’m a tad surprised with the price here but again it's stacked in our favour I may add. This 26yrs old kid from Louisiana has been on the radar since way back last year when I said he’d be where he is now.
Currently ranked number eleven in the world with four PGA crowns in the bag including two victories this year, Sam Burns is hotter than ever and surely represents terrific value at 33/1.
A winner last time out on the PGA tour at the Sanderson Farms Championship and also winner when successfully defending his Valspar Championship title and also with five Top 10 places this year, ignore Burns at your peril.
With some tidy figures in the stats department also which include, 13th Longest Drives, 10th SG Total, 13th Approach The Green, 10th SG Putting, 9th Putting Average at 1.724 and 9th Birdie Average at 4.37, this has all the ingredients for the perfect recipe as Sam Burns turns on the heat on his way to becoming a FedEx Champion.
Will Zalatoris
For my next selection at the FedEx St Jude Championship, I’m going to single out Will Zalatoris 28/1 EW SpreadEx. The 25-year-old from San Francisco with a host of runners-up prizes is still yet to break his duck on the PGA tour but it’s going to happen anytime soon, possibly this weekend in Memphis, Tennessee.
He probably still can’t believe he finished second best at two majors this year, 2nd at the USPGA Championship and T2nd at the US Open as well as a very respectable 6th at The Masters, please please give Will his first win, he surely deserves it more than anyone. He also finished 5th this year at the WGC Dell Technologies Matchplay and 5th at the Memorial Tournament to record six Top 10 finishes in total this year alone.
Zalatoris also comes here with the stats that matter in the bag, he’s simply a wizard at accuracy and precision which I said earlier will be the key to success in Memphis.
On the PGA Tour this year the world number fourteen ranks, wait for this bag of tricks, 10th Birdie Average at 4.26, 9th Greens in Regulation, 8th SG Total, 4th Lowest Round at 61, 2nd SG Tee To Green and again keep the best for last 1st SG Approach the Green.
I’m almost out the door to back him myself this week after reading back on those stats.
Don’t worry I won’t folks, I won’t jinx it for you all but I will tell you now, jump all over Will Zalatoris to finally get what he deserves when he bags his maiden title to the delight of us all and him when he’s crowned with the FedEx St Jude Championship title.
For my final selection, it’s the customary match bet and for this week's Nap I’m really liking the look of Will Zalatoris again but this time to beat Jordan Spieth over 72 holes 10/11 Nap Bet365.
