The Caddys Golf Tips

The DPWT remains in South Africa finishing its International Swing Series with the Jonsson Workwear Open at Glendower Golf Club, Johannesburg.

The 156 field will all be playing for a share of the $1.5M prize purse with the winner collecting the Jonsson Workwear Open title and a winning cheque for $250,000.

Nick Bachem won the first edition of this event last year. His winning scorecard from Steyn City last year read 264, -24.

Glendower Golf Club will be playing 7,542 yards long this weeks, it’s a par 72, Parkland lay out with plenty water hazards so accuracy & precision will be key.

The weather forecast is mainly sunny & pleasant conditions throughout with the threat of thunderstorms on Thursday and Sunday. Breezes will peak at around 20mph.

This event will be screened in Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 10am on Thursday.

So let’s move on with this weeks Jonsson Workwear Open betting selections.

Zander Lombard 18/1 EW

For my first pick at Glendower Golf Club I’m going to single out Zander Lombard 18/1 EW Bet365 1-8 places. Its unbelievable that the South African still hasn’t won on the DPWT but that could be all about to change on Sunday afternoon just outside Johannesburg.

Zander Lombard was joint runner up at this event last year and every event he had entered in 2024 has resulted in a Top 20 finish apart from one.

Half a dozen finishes inside the Top 20 with half of those being Top 10 efforts, that’s as consistent as it gets in this field.

This season on the DPWT Zander Lombard ranks 12th Driving Distance, 10th Putts per GIR & 6th Stroke Average.

He had his best season yet in 2023 with three runners up spots and he’s started 2024 even hotter so surely that long awaited DPWT title is just around the corner & I mean just.

Jesper Svensson 30/1 EW

For my next selection in South Africa I’m going to recommend Jesper Svensson 30/1 EW Boylesports 1-8 places.

The Swede is another who’s been consistent over the past few tournaments & he’ll be looking to make that consistently pay off with a W this weekend in Johannesburg.

T11th last time out at the Kenya Open, T16th before that at the Qatar Masters then before that joint runner up at the Bahrain Championship.

Svennson is rising up the world rankings at quite some pace since arriving from the Challenge Tour & his game is as good as any on the DPWT.

All these Top 20 finishes, along with the runner up prize, are all signs that Jesper Svennson won’t be hanging about too long for that elusive maiden DPWT title.

He’s no stranger to the winners enclosure having won in the competitive Challenge Tour last year then follows that up with another runner up spot at the South African Open.

Jesper Svennson is all over my radar at the moment & the writing’s all over the wall that he’ll be a DPWT champ anytime soon, possibly this weekend.

Henne du Plessis 30/1 EW

For my final pick of the week I’m going to point you all in the direction of Henne du Plessis 30/1 EW 1-8 places Ladbrokes/ Coral.

We’ve already got one of last years joint runners up , well here’s the other. Just a couple of years back the South African was 3rd on the DPWT for Stroke Average, 5th Putts per GIR, 12th Driving Distance & 21st for Greens in Regulation.

It’s fair to say that he’s not been as hot with the putter since then but there are signs that things may be improving for Henne. I’m willing to forget about the missed cut last time out at the SDC Championship as again the conditions weren’t the best.

I’m going to concentrate more on his 3rd place effort before that at the Dimension Data Pro Am, an event co-sanctioned by the Challenge & Africa Tours.

Henne du Plessis has made the cut at all four DPWT events entered in 2024 & it was only a few months ago he finished 6th at the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

He’s another without a W on the main Tours but what a way it would be to break your duck on home soil in front of your home fans well that could just be how it goes at Glendower Golf Club on Sunday afternoon
