Here are the tips we recommend weighing up this Friday, using the latest odds from bookmaker Betfred:
Mensik to defeat de Minaur @ 1/1
De Minaur has won both of his matches in Vienna so far, but he hasn’t exactly been impressive. Sure, winning the way he did was solid, but he can still be beaten. We’re still a bit unsure where he stands with his hip.
It looks fine, but there’s a decent chance it might still give him some minor issues here and there.
Mensik has the profile of a player who excels indoors. He’s got a massive serve, which is fairly reliable, and plays quite well behind it, especially with a forehand as strong as his.
He kind of resembles Jack Draper, who dismantled de Minaur at the US Open, which is why we think Mensik could do it again.
De Minaur showed some vulnerability against Struff and Cobolli, and we believe Mensik is a better player than both, particularly on indoor courts.
Of course, this pick hinges on Mensik having a superb serving day, which might not happen, but if he does, we like his chances. The odds are certainly enticing enough to justify this pick, so we’ve gone with it.
Fils to defeat Tsitsipas @ 1/1
This is a pretty straightforward choice based on recent performances. Tsitsipas is a good indoor player and has been for much of his career, but lately, he's become very unreliable. If there’s one top name prone to upsets, it's him, and Fils is more than capable of pulling it off.
As a French player, Fils excels indoors, and with his forehand and serve, it’s easy to understand why. He has all the tools needed to perform well, and he’s played enough on indoor courts to have a strong chance here.
We’re backing this partly because the odds are just too good to ignore and partly because the matchup seems to favour Fils.
Tsitsipas has a glaring weakness on the backhand side, and the French player will certainly try to exploit it. After all, Fils already beat him indoors once, and that was last year in Antwerp.
Fils has only improved since then, while Tsitsipas may have regressed even more. This is a no-brainer—take Fils to win the match.
