Two clubs separated only by two points in the Belgian Pro League table meet at ‘t Kuipje on Friday night as 11th-placed Westerlo play host to 10th-placed Standard Liège in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Rik De Mil’s hosts have scored 38 goals across their opening 25 matches in the Belgian Pro League, with 18 (47%) of them coming on home soil. De Kemphanen have found the back of the net in nine of their previous 11 league outings in front of their supporters – scoring on multiple occasions in four of their last six – and will be confident of hitting the target once again at home against a Liège defence that is yet to register a clean sheet on their travels this season, shipping multiple goals in six of their previous seven.
Ivan Leko’s new side have scored 23 goals across their opening 25 matches in the Belgian top-flight, with 13 (57%) of them coming on their travels. Les Rouches have made the net bulge in eight of their previous 11 road trips – scoring on multiple occasions in four (36%) of them – and will look to trouble a Westerlo defence that has registered only five clean sheets in the league this season, with only the bottom three conceding more than the 47 they have shipped.

Westerlo’s opening 25 matches in the Belgian Pro League this campaign are averaging a league-high 3.40 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in 19/25 (76%) of them, including in 11 of their last 12 – and given the same has landed in seven of Standard Liège’s last nine road trips – I’m happy to have a punt on there being a minimum of three goals between these two sides this evening.
