Saturday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Italian Serie A. I’ve picked a couple of selection which I like the look of to give us a nice odds against double.
Genoa vs Atalanta
🇮🇹 Serie A
⏰ Tuesday 21st December, 19:45
Two sides at opposite ends of the Serie A table meet at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris as Genoa host Atalanta. The visitors come into this inside the final Champions League place in 4th, six points above both Roma and Juventus. The hosts meanwhile, are in the relegation zone and are three points from safety.
Genoa come into this off the back of successive 3-1 defeats in Serie A, first by city rivals Sampdoria, then by Lazio in the Olimpico. That’s now four defeats in a row for Andriy Shevchenko side, with the Ukrainian collecting just one point from his first six matches in charge. Genoa have won just once in Serie A this season, coming against fellow struggles Cagliari but that victory came on matchday three. Genoa have a shocking record against sides currently inside the top eight, losing all seven and conceding at least twice in every one.
Atalanta were defeated 1-4 at home to top four rivals Roma on Saturday, a score line and even a result few would’ve predicted. That defeat ended a 10 match unbeaten run in Serie A for Gianpiero Gasperini’s side, a run that also saw them win each of their previous six. Whilst that was their third defeat at home in the league this season, it’s been a different story on the road, winning 8/9, only dropping points in a 2-2 draw against current champions Inter. Atalanta are the leagues second highest scorers with 38, with 20 of them coming away from home. The boys from Bergamo have scored at least twice in 12 of their 18 league games this season, including in seven of their nine away fixtures.
Juventus vs Cagliari
🇮🇹 Serie A
⏰ Tuesday 21st December, 19:45
Two other sides who are also at opposite ends of the Serie A table meet at the Allianz Stadium as Juventus host Cagliari. The hosts are currently in 6th, six points behind Atalanta in 4th. The visitors, on the other hand, are 18th and three points from safety.
Juventus come into this off the back of a good 0-2 victory away to Siniša Mihajlović’s dangerous Bologna side. That’s now 10 points out of a possible 12 for Juventus, With Max Allegri’s side also winning five of their last seven in Serie A, losing only to high flying Atalanta. The thing that will please Allegri most from their recent good run of form is that it’s just two goals conceded in each of their last seven games, keeping a clean sheet in all five of their victories. Juventus are still unbeaten against the bottom seven sides in Serie A this season, winning four out of six.
It’s now back to back 4-0 defeats in Serie for Walter Mazzarri’s side, losing to Inter in the San Siro, before defeat in Sardinia against mid table Udinese. Prior to those two defeats, Cagliari had drawn each of their four, however, all four of those draws came against sides currently positioned in 10th and below. Cagliari have collected just 10 points from their opening 18 matches this season, with only one of them coming against sides in the top eight. Cagliari have scored just five goals in their seven tussles with top eight sides, conceding on 19 occasions.
Bet of the Day
Atalanta were defeated 1-4 at home to Roma at the weekend, ending a 10 match unbeaten run, as well as a six game winning streak in Serie A. However, Gianpiero Gasperini will see Genoa as the perfect opponents to get back on track at the Marassi. Andriy Shevchenko has lost five of his opening six matches as Genoa manager, including each of his last four. Genoa have struggled against the top eight in Serie A this season, losing all seven, conceding 2+ in all seven also and I’m expecting them to concede at least twice against an Atalanta side who are the second highest scorers in Serie A and who have won 8/9 on their travels. Juventus haven’t been a side I’ve chosen to back too often this season but I’m expecting them to defeat a struggling Cagliari side in Turin. Max Allegri’s side are unbeaten in their last four in Serie A, with them also winning five of their last seven, conceding just twice. Only Salernitana have scored fewer than Cagliari in Serie A and I can’t see the Sardinian’s causing the Old Lady too many problems here. With Juventus also being the lowest scorers in the top half of Serie A, I’m not predicting a high scoring match, therefore I’m happy to back a Juventus win and under 4.5 goals. This has landed in each of the Old Lady’s last seven victories in Serie A, as well as each of Cagliari’s last eight defeats.
- Atalanta to Score 2+
- Juventus to Win & Under 4.5 Goals
- Double Pays 11/10 (SBK)
Atalanta to Score 2+ ❌ (0-0)
Juventus to Win & Under 4.5 Goals ✅ (2-0)
Double Pays 11/10 ❌
Despite Juventus doing the business, Atalanta failed to score even once to down the double. 👎🏼
