After frustratingly falling a goal short at Watford last night, Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the European matches, and there is one side in particular that appeals to me for goals.
⚽️ Roma ?? vs Brighton & Hove Albion ???????
?? Europa League
⏰ Thursday 7th March, 17:45
Roma welcome Brighton to the Stadio Olimpico tomorrow evening in the first leg of their Europa League tie in a fixture that I’m keen to back the in-form hosts to bag a double.
After finishing 2nd behind Slavia Prague in their Europa League group, Roma had to navigate past the side they defeated in the 2021/22 Conference League final, Feyenoord, in the playoff round – and after a pair of 1-1 draws – The Giallorossi defeated the reigning Dutch champions on penalties. As well as sealing his side to the last-16 of the Europa League, new head coach and club legend Danielle De Rossi has made an impressive start domestically, having W6-D0-L1 since taking charge in the middle of January – with their solitary defeat coming in a 2-4 loss at home to runaway league leaders Inter – leaving them 5th in the Serie A table, just four points off 4th-placed Atalanta.
Brighton managed to avoid the Europa League playoff round, as they’ve finished top of their group, above Marseille and Ajax – two clubs who have had crisis spells this season – and reigning Greek champions AEK Athens. Roberto De Zerbi’s men began the season in scintillating style, winning five of their opening six Premier League matches, but have since won five more in their next 21 (W5-D9-L7) to leave them in 9th position. Their away form has been particularly poor in recent months, with The Seagulls winning just two of their previous 12 Premier League encounters on their travels (W2-D3-L7), with both wins coming at Nottingham Forest (17th) and Sheffield United (20th).
Bet of the Day
The Italians have found the back of the net in all 18 (100%) of their Serie A/Europa League fixtures in front of their supporters this campaign, scoring on multiple occasions in 13 (73%) of them. The Giallorossi have also made the net bulge on two or more occasions in each of De Rossi’s opening seven Serie A fixtures in charge of his boyhood club – and I’m backing them to bag another brace at home to a Brighton defence that has shipped multiple goals in nine of their last 15 PremierLeague/Europa League contests on their travels.
