Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me focus on the Champions League once more, and there is one fixture in particular that appeals to me for goals.
⚽️ Celtic ??????? vs Feyenoord ??
?? Champions League
⏰ Wednesday 13th December, 20:00
Celtic will look to end their Champions League campaign on a high as they welcome Europa League-bound Feyenoord to Celtic Park tomorrow evening, and despite the game effectively being a dead-rubber, I’m expecting goals.
It’s been another miserable Champions League campaign for Celtic, as bottom spot was secured following their late 2-0 defeat at the Olimpico against Lazio last time out. Brendan Rodgers’ side have taken a solitary point across their opening five Champions League contests but have been unfortunate not to have picked more points up at home, leading twice in a 2-2 draw with Atlético, as well as conceding a stoppage-time winner against Lazio, moments after they thought they had won it. Domestically, The Hopps suffered their first league defeat of the campaign at the weekend, as a poor second-half performance saw them fall to a 2-1 defeat away at Kilmarnock, meaning they now only sit five points clear at the top of the Premiership, playing a game more than bitter-rivals Rangers.
Feyenoord’s hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the Champions League were ended last time out, as they fell to a 1-3 defeat at home to Atlético. Whilst that was their first defeat at home in the group stage after previously winning each of their last two, Arne Slot’s visitors have struggled on their travels, losing both matches away at Lazio and Atléti. The Rotterdam giants bounced back from their 1-2 defeat at home to current Eredivisie invincibles PSV by securing a late 3-1 success against Volendam last time out, ensuring they remain 2nd in the Eredivisie table.
Bet of the Day
Celtic have been a shambles defensively in the Champions League, conceding 14 goals across their opening five matches in Group E, shipping multiple goals in each, but have looked threatening going forward, particularly at home, scoring three goals across both home matches, with them perhaps a little unfortunate not to have score more. Feyenoord have also struggled defensively, with their only clean sheet coming in the reverse fixture on MD1, a game where Celtic finished the match with nine men.
Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals has banked in three of Feyenoord’s previous four Champions League matches – and given the same has landed in both of Celtic’s home fixtures in Group E – I’m happy to have a punt on there to be three or more goals, with both sides getting on the scoresheet in a match between two sides who are far better going forward than they are defensively.
