After making it three winners from three to begin the month of March in Holland on Sunday, Tuesday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me head to the EFL, and there is one fixture in particular that appeals to me for goals.
⚽️ Peterborough United vs Northampton Town
??????? League One
⏰ Tuesday 5th March, 19:45
Peterborough will look to strengthen their position inside the League One playoff places as they welcome 12th-placed Northampton Town to London Road in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.
Darren Ferguson’s hosts are the joint-second-highest scorers in League One, slamming in 63 goals across their opening 34 matches, with 36 (57%) of them coming at home. The Posh have found the back of the net in all 16 (100%) of their league contests on home soil – scoring on multiple occasions in 13 (81%) other them, including in 12 of their last 13 – and I’m backing them to bag another brace at home against a Cobblers defence that has registered a solitary clean sheet across their previous 13 League One contests on the road, shipping two or more in nine of their last 12.
Jon Brady’s visitors have scored 48 goals across their opening 35 contests in the English third-tier this campaign, with 23 (48%) of them coming on their travels. The Cobblers have found the back of the net in 13/17 (76%) of their road trips – scoring on multiple occasions in seven of their previous nine – and will look to trouble a Peterborough defence that is without a clean sheet in each of their last six league outings on home soil, shipping multiple goals in four (67%) of them.
Bet of the Day
Peterborough’s opening 16 fixtures at home in League One this season are averaging a league-high 3.38 goals per game, with Over 2.5 Goals banking in each of their last 10 – and given the same has landed in 11 of Northampton’s previous 12 road trips – I’m happy to have a punt on there being a minimum of three goals, with the free-scoring hosts scoring at least two of them.
To nudge up the price, I’m happy to throw in the hosts to be awarded a minimum of four corner kicks. The Posh have earned four or more corners in 33/34 (97%) of their League One encounters this campaign, whilst Northampton have conceded at least four corners in 13/17 (76%) of their road trips this season, including in nine of their last 10.
