Euro 2024 Bet of the day

After a couple of winners in Washington and LA in midweek, Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me return to the MLS, and I’ve highlighted one fixture in particular that appeals to me for goals.

⚽️ Philadelphia Union vs New York Red Bulls

🇺🇸 MLS

⏰ Sunday 7 July, 00:30

Two clubs at opposite ends of the Eastern Conference table meet at Subaru Park on Saturday night/Sunday morning as 14th-placed Philadelphia Union play host to fifth-placed New York Red Bulls in a fixture that appeals to me for goals.

Jim Curtin’s hosts have scored 36 goals across their opening 21 encounters in the MLS this term, with 13 (36%) of them coming on home soil.

Despite their struggles, The Union have made the net bulge in 18/21 (86%) of their MLS encounters this campaign – notching on multiple occasions in 14 (67%) of them – and will be confident of breaching a Red Bulls backline that is without a clean sheet across each of their previous 10 MLS matches on the road, shipping two or more goals in five (50%) of them.

Sandro Schwarz’s visitors have also struck 36 times across their opening 21 contests in MLS this term, with 16 (44%) of them coming on their travels.

The Red Bulls have failed to score in just one of their previous eight MLS road trips – notching on multiple occasions in five of their last seven – and will be confident of continuing their fine goal-scoring run of form away from against a Philly defence that has conceded 39 goals and kept just four clean sheets all season, shipping a minimum of two goals in 12 of their last 15.

Bet of the Day

The Union’s opening 21 fixtures in the MLS this campaign are averaging 3.57 goals per game, with Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals proving to be profitable in 15 (71%) of their contents – and given the same has landed in six of NYRB’s previous seven MLS encounters on the road – I’m happy to have a punt on there being a minimum of three goals, with both sides contributing.
