Football Bet of the Day: NEC Know Their Way to Goal

Friday’s Football Bet of the Day sees me take my usual trip to Holland, but this time to the Eredivisie, and I’m keen to get the in-form visitors on side.

Two clubs in contrasting form in the Eredivisie meet at the Mandemakers Stadion on Friday night as 16th-placed RKC play host to 7th-placed NEC in a fixture that I’m keen to back the hosts to bag a double.

Not only did they get through to the semi-final of the KNVB in midweek, but NEC currently occupy 7th position in the Eredivisie table following a 3-1 victory at home to 15th-placed Heracles last weekend. The Nijmegen-based club have now lost just one of their previous 13 Eredivisie fixtures (5-D7-L1) – a 1-2 defeat at home to resurgent Ajax at the start of December – with all five of those victories coming across their previous seven matches.

RKC currently occupy the relegation playoff spot and are now four points adrift of 15th-placed Heracles following a 3-0 defeat away at 3rd-placed Twente last weekend. Henk Fraser’s hosts have now lost eight of their previous 12 Eredivisie fixtures (W1-D3-L8) and head into this clash having picked up just two points from their last seven matches, with them also picking up the same amount of points from their previous six encounters on home soil.

Rogier Meijer’s visitors have scored 39 goals across their opening 20 Eredivisie fixtures this term, with 15 (38%) of them coming on their travels. The Nijmegen-based club have only failed to score in a 4-0 defeat away at runaway league leaders PSV – scoring on multiple occasions in eight of their previous 11 and in nine of their last 10 in all competitions – and I’m backing them to bag a brace for the sixth consecutive away match in the Eredivisie against an RKC defence that has registered a solitary clean sheet at home this season, shipping multiple goals in 6/10 (60%) of them, including in four of their last six.
