Monday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on the Italian Serie A. I’ve picked two sides at home to secure all three points against their lowly opponents.
AC Milan vs Spezia
🇮🇹 Serie A
⏰ Monday 17th January, 17:30
AC Milan will look to go top of the Serie A table, as they play host to Spezia. The hosts come into this in 2nd, just two points behind Inter, whilst the visitors are 16th and just three points above the relegation zone.
Milan booked their place in the quarter finals of the Coppa Italia in midweek, as they finally got the better of Genoa. Prior to that, Stefano Pioli’s side comfortably dispatched Venezia 0-3, to make it three wins on the bounce in Serie A. Milan have a strong record against bottom half sides, with the Rossoneri winning nine out of 11, suffering just one defeat against entertaining Sassuolo. Only city rivals Inter have scored more goals in Serie A than Milan, with the Rossoneri finding the back of the net on 46 occasions.
Spezia claimed a crucial victory last time out, defeating relegation rivals Genoa 0-1 at the Marassi. That’s now back to back 0-1 wins on the road for Spezia, however, that’s their only two victories in their last nine in Serie A. Thiago Motta’s side have lost six of their seven games against top half sides, conceding 22 goals. Spezia have one of the leakiest defences in Serie A, with the Little Eagles conceding 41 goals in their opening 21 matches.
Fiorentina vs Genoa
🇮🇹 Serie A
⏰ Monday 17th January, 19:45
Fiorentina will look to get back into the European places, as they host a struggling Genoa side at the Artemio Franchi. The hosts come into this in 8th, just three points behind both Lazio and Roma, whilst the visitors are 19th, six points from safety.
Fiorentina booked their place into the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia, as they defeated Napoli 2-5 in a drama-filled match. That was Fiorentina’s first win in four, with La Viola losing 4-0 away to Torino in their last Serie A outing. Fiorentina have been strong at home this season, with only Inter and Napoli leaving Florence with all three points. Vincenzo Italiano’s side have won five of their last at the Franchi, with his side scoring at least twice in all six and at least three times in five of those matches.
Genoa were knocked out of the Coppa Italia in midweek against Milan, in what proved to be Andriy Shevchenko’s last match in charge of the club. The Ukrainian had a tough time in charge, with the former Chelsea striker failing to win any of his nine Serie A games in charge of the Rossoblú, losing six. Genoa have collected just 12 points this season and are without a win in Serie A since the second week in September. Genoa have lost seven of their eight matches against the current top 8 in Serie A, including the reverse fixture at Marassi earlier in the season.
Bet of the Day
With rivals Inter dropping points in Bergamo, Milan know if they secure all three points at home to lowly Spezia they’ll go top of Serie A. The Rossoneri have won their last three in the league and I’m expecting them to extend their winning run to four against a Spezia side that’s just three points above the relegation places. Milan are the league’s second highest scorers and have banged in 10 goals in their last three matches and they should score at least twice against a Spezia side that tend to struggle defensively against the league’s better sides. Fiorentina will look to go level on points with both clubs from the capital, as they host a struggling Genoa side. La Viola have won five of their last six at home, scoring 19 goals and should have too much firepower for a manager-less Genoa side. The Rossoblú are without a win in Serie A since matchday three and have lost seven of their games against sides currently positioned inside the top 8 and I don’t see them leaving Florence with any points on Monday evening.
